What's new

Are we on this site as a protest?

A protest to the price of shaving, consumerism going against the interest of the consumer, big companies inferior products, a protest to doing things the “old fashioned way”, are we trying to save the great brands of “old school” shaving in a way that makes us sad when our favourite corner store/restaurant closes down, are we shaving because it relaxes us and don’t want this peaceful time taken away from us with “new” and so called efficient products, is it for monetary reasons, is it because we remember the days when men where men, is it because we remember the ways things used to be and find society changing in a way we might not like and find this site as a way to express those views, is it because the new way of shaving doesn’t feel as good and produces subpar results, is it because we don’t like Gillett’s slogan” the best a man can get” and hope badger and blade squirts Aqua Velva in their eyes, is it because we are the kind of people that don’t follow the herd and do things differently, is it because it makes you feel something like a man and differentiates yourself from the ladies, is it a way you can pass on the ritual to your son and find passing on a Fusion a bit, well, lame, is it a way that you introduce your son into the world of a man and maybe find this kind of passage/connection missing in today’s society, is it a protest against cheap ingredients that are charged way too much and you won’t be treated like a fool, is it because we remember when quality wasn’t so expensive, is it because we don’t like the way people are treating each other and use shaving as a way to remember how people used to be like, is it because we feel like telling everybody to slow down and smell the rose scented Trumper soap and maybe try going against the grain once in your life and is it because after all we all have that little bit of rebel in us?

If it is for some of the reasons above maybe we could have Badger and Blade run for congress and (in me best homie/Ali G voice) represent?

Maybe I’m just freaking out and have a bit of twilight zone going on but I reckon we are on here as a little protest we have going on inside of us and it’s not just because we enjoy shaving?

I think there's some truth to what you're saying. since joining B&B i've grown to appreciate the past more than ever. I never thought this would happen to me but there it is. with places like Walmart, Ikea and other stores carrying cheap, inferior product, it made me want to invest more time, money and energy into things I know will last me a lifetime. I still buy cheap goods, but the truth is, I think it's pretty hard to avoid products that are made in China. I try to support those smaller companies that put more heart and soul into their products than the big boys on the block, unfortunately, these companies represent a small minority of businesses making quality product.

People are on this site for various reasons, which can encompass...

- A rejection of paying for cartridge systems by seeking out alternatives
- Exploring traditional wet shaving methods
- To interact with like minded people on the wet shaving hobby
- Exchange ideas and opinions on shaving products
- Looking for advice for shaving problems/difficulties
- Obtaining reviews for shaving components and products
- To socialize on topical and/ nostaglia topics

This list can go on. In essense, we are here for a combination of personal reasons.

Nope...I am here because I enjoy shaving.

if no then how come so many of us complain about it?

when i think about it shaving is one of the few things that's affordable and has quality. just look at food today and the crap ingredients and how much it costs for quality. shaving is what for me makes me think about what it was back then. technology is supposed to make life more convenient but nobody has any time anymore.

and what if it was taken away from you, it is supposed to be a dwindling market. just look how people feel when tallow is taken out, when p160 is no more? we all have a little protest? how many of us protest to our friends how much better wetshaving is?

are we also not here saying to suppliers there's some of us still left and hopefully growing?

Protest? We barely acknowledge the existence of the cartridge and goo crowd.

Hmm. Even with all this new information, I'm going to have to stick with my initial no.

:thumbup1:YES:thumbup:

For me, the best form of protest is to look beneath that ugly veneer of consumerism and take stock of just how many people---like those found here, or in my neighborhood or church---still value things I hold dear: craftsmanship, simplicity, honesty, honor, tradition. There are a lot of them.

Connecting with them and celebrating the good things---that's where its at. That's why I can't seem to stay away from this community...

I now know that a good shave and the burn of Osage Rub connects me with more people who think like me that I'd originally ever thought of.
