What's new

Are there any vetivers that are stronger and longer lasting than guerlain?

I just tried Guerlain vetiver and liked it but it didn't last long are there any stronger vetivers that will last all day?

Thanks

Jim

I find Guerlain's to last a VERY long time, on me at least. It changes in subtle ways over time, and loses that initial soapiness. It dries down to a nice clean light scent, and I'll smell it on my shirts and things days later (and no, I don't bathe in it, lol...I'm a two or three spritz kinda guy). I've found that Royall Vetiver is not nearly as mild (more like a sock in the face if you use it as a splash..it'll literally take my breath away), but it fades much quicker, to the point of nonexistence. Not tried the Creed or Puig versions, but the Guerlain is the grandpappy of all vetiver scents...some say there wouldn't BE vetiver if it wasn't for them, and I can see why. It's a timeless, classic masculine scent (although I know a woman that wears it as well, and man, does it smell good when it's spiked with estrogen, lol).

Anyway, back on topic (I just had a huge mojito, and am waxing eloquent)...I don't think the lasting powe rper se is the issue here...it could most likely be that you just become accostomed to the scent and don't notice it after a while. I'll think it's gone too, and someone wil remark on it hours later, telling me, "Mmmm...what is that? You smell gooooood...."

Be careful what you ask for! I did the vetyver comparison thing, and when I found some really potent ones, I found I didn't like them. There are endless variations of the theme, and probably something for everyone. One I like is, Etat Libre d'Orange Tom of Finland. I got a decant, but haven't located a bottle....its pretty new.

Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire
MPG Route du Vetiver
Creed Original Vetiver (Much soapier and a hint of lime. The others are dirty, raw, earthy vetivers)

I've been wearing Lalique "Encre Noir" and am really liking it Its an easily available scent that most of the online discount places sell so its not terribly pricey!

Another Vote for Creed Original Vetiver. One of my favorites. However, if you really want the Creed OV scent all day, I'd look into the Mugler Cologne by Theirry Mugler. Creeds Topnotes fade rather quickly into a warm ambergris base, but Muglers last linerally throughout the day.
