I put in a blade order this morning, and I just bothered to check the B&B Wiki on razor blades for the first time. The language of the packaging on the Blue Birds and the Derbys is virtually identical.
Can anyone who has both confirm if they're the same blade?
I have both. Unfortunately I can't get an irritation-free shave with either in any of the razors I've tried them in. I still have to try them in my Slim adjustable. They are very similar. If I had to pinpoint differences, I would say that the Blue Bird is slightly smoother and more consistent blade to blade. I've never had a bad one whereas I've gotten the occasional dud from Derby.
I'm surprised more people haven't tried both - they've gotten very good reviews here on B&B and they're cheap. After I get a chance to try them and the Derbys (I have both coming), I'll post some feedback. The only DE razor I have is a Merkur HD.
Can't confirm they are the same, but it seems they are not. I really like Derbys but was impressed by Blue Birds and would agree with the previous post regarding their quality consistency and smoothness. So much so, I may buy quite a few more.
You may have already discovered this from another thread as there are more than one on the bluebirds but it seems that the blades are made in Turkey by Derby for an outside company at different specifications than the regular Derbies. If nothing else you'll be able to read on the reviews page that the BB's are felt to be quite a bit sharper and more smooth than their counterparts. I have not received my first order of BB's yet, but will post something about their performance once I do. Cheers!
