AOS users - need input

Twice a year, my employer has an employees only sale and we carry Art of Shaving - at the discounted price, I will get anything I want 1/2 off so I'm gonna hit'em hard and stock up.

I've been using a sampler and I like the oil and cream and I'm trying to decide the ratio I should buy them since the oil goes such a long way. Would you say 1 bottle of oil per 2 creams? or 1 to 1? or something else. I know it isn't an exact science, but If i'm gonna stock up, I want to get it as close as I can.

Edit to add:

Sorry, I cannot extend this to B&B members. Our activity during this is tightly monitored and abusers of the system get fired. I got kids to feed and stuff.

Not an oil user but when I did try it, I used it very sparingly, I would estimate no more than two bottles a year versus trying to ratio it to the number of creams you buy. You may want to search the shave soap stock and locate any of the old tallow formula as they were quite well respected and might be worth stocking up on.

I would also add to look for the soap (tallow if you can find it and like the added clay smell). Lavender and sandalwood scents get great reviews. I haven't used the oil before but would think you could get 1 to match each cream's scent

I would get the cream and any tallow soaps. The non-tallow, reformulated soaps are ok. I've used the pre-shave oil and didn't like it; it was too heavy.

Back when I started with AOS, one 2oz bottle of oil lasted me about the same time as two jars of cream. They lasted about a year, I think. Keep in mind, I was using the oil with any cream--but AOS was my primary cream. Today I have many creams and soaps, but still use oil every day. So I go through an oil more quickly than I go through any particular cream or soap.

I'm not generally a pre-shave oil guy, but if you are, I know that AOS' pre-shave oil is very heavy, so I would say three creams/soaps to one pre-shave oil. I would definitely recommend stocking up on whatever creams or soaps you like (and if they have any of the old tallow-based soaps, snatch them up). I'm personally partial to Ocean Kelp; half off makes them about $12 which competes with any other maker out there.

From personal experience with the AoS line, I would say good ratio is 3 creams/soaps for 1 pre-shave oil. 50% is a fantastic deal!

You should pick up a straight if possible. I'd hoard the sea kelp stuff.

We only have the software, a straight is on my list, but I won't be getting so lucky as to nab a 50% off straight. I think we have some brushes but they don't seem too popular here. I'm not really in the brush market anyway. I think I'll be sticking to the oils and creams - I'm not a huge fan of shaving balms - I like a little burn in my AS products.

What line of service are you in, jcblough? Seems like you have yourself one heck of a hookup! 50% is definitely the best discount I have ever heard/seen in regards to AOS products. In fact, AOS's recent "Luck of the Irish" giveaway offered a 40% discount, if you were "lucky" enough to get the code...and I was blown away by the huge discount. Obviously your discount crushes the 40%, though. I agree with the consensus above. The Ocean Kelp smells really cool and has a pleasant calming effect like you would experience at a spa. They have an ocean help pre-shave gel, not oil, which is beneficial if you have oily skin - but still provides the same slickness, according to AOS.

I'm in IT/Business Intelligence for an upscale retailer. I'll have to put the ocean kelp on my list to check out - I saw it last time I looked but didn't test the AS for scent as I thought it would smell like an old fishing boat.

I'm not a regular pre shave oil user, but if I had to guess I would say one bottle of oil per jar of cream for usage. You're a lucky guy to have this opportunity. Well.... I shouldn't say lucky..... I'm sure you're a hard worker for your company who has earned this little perk  . Good job!
