What's new

AOS opening relatively near. Any suggestions?

I've got an AoS storefront (in the mall) opening in the next month or two, much to my pleasure. What kinds of things that they carry would you all suggest that I check out when it does?

Their shaving cream is very good. It takes a lot of water, but it makes a very smooth, thick, rich lather. Also if you go in and chat them up, they'll more than likely give you some free sample kits (pre-shave oil, shaving cream, after-shave balm). If you're carefull about it, you can make the shaving cream last for several shaves.

Another for the sandalwood!

Great scent, very pleasant and lasts for quite a while.

The lather is incredible. Its like cool-whip, so comfortable and slick. Wonderful stuff!

Their soaps are the best around IMO.

What city is this store opening in?

Schaumburg, Illinois.

So, what I'm getting from everybody is that the sandalwood isn't putrid. Am I reading you right? :001_tt2:

(Will have to try the sandalwood, I think)

Until the bean counters in Cincy get involved, their soaps (tallow based and made in Italy) and creams (made in England) are top quality and scented with essential oils.

Balms, I find to be a little heavy and borderline greasy compared to the Brit brands. Face scrub was good but overpriced. Most of the other stuff strikes me as either grossly overpriced (bath soap) or exceedingly gimmicky.

I like my C&E Sandalwood much more than Art of Shaving's. That said, I use their Lavender cream just about every time I shave. I love it!

Their aftershave isn't very good, and their preshave is absolutely atrocious! But the creams and soaps are worth the hype. At $22, it's not entry-level, but definitely rivals the big dogs you pay much more for. They have a $6 brush stand that is nice, too. Otherwise, a bunch of overpriced razors (Mach 3, Fusion, and Merkur single blades at retail price -- save money and buy them online) and other hype not worth mentioning.

I have never been in one of their stores nor tried any of their product range but I would gladly pop in to see what it was all about.

their basic shaving products (cream, soap, balm, etc.) are high-quality and are worth trying. i have the unscented shaving soap which works quite well and the lavender shaving cream and ASB which are both quite nice.

the only product of theirs i can't recommend is the pre-shave oil which i find thick, gloppy and a pain-in-the-***. it's basically scented olive oil. a lighter weight oil is easier to manage and very good ones are available in a variety of price ranges from pacific shave oil, gentlemen's refinery, truefitt and hill and others.

one thing....avoid LIKE THE PLAGUE any accessories like travel kits, higher-end brushes, shaving cartridge handles, etc. they're outrageously priced and just rebranded products that you could buy elsewhere for much much less.

just my 2¢
