Anyone use Rive Gauche?

I would not worry a whole lot about matching your aftershaves to your fragrance, just find a lightly scented aftershave that dissipates quickly and you should have no problems. I personally don't think that Rive Gauche and Barbasol smell EXACTLY the same, I think some people exaggerate. I do think that they are in the same vein, however. As suggested in the other thread, I have used both 4711 and various bay rum aftershaves with Rive Gauche and they all worked fine, because 4711 AS splash barely lasts walking out of the bathroom, and most bay rums (Dominica, in my case) really only last ~30 mins on me, and are lightly scented anyways.

I also don't like menthol in my aftershaves, but to give you a new recommendation, give Lucky Tiger Aspen a shot! It has a light, spicy, clean scent that would go great with Rive Gauche, IMO. Also doesn't hang around too long, and is super cheap. Its blue, but has no menthol. Not a whole lot of skin goodies in it, alcohol splash that uses propylene glycol as a humectant. But its cheap, and if you need more moisture you could always add some glycerin, or follow up with an AS balm.

Thanks, Frank! I tried RG with Sally's bay rum as an aftershave, and didn't find it satisfying. 4711 I found very satisfying. Did, as I mentioned in the corresponding aftershave thread, get Aqua Velva Classic. It is nice enough (even with whatever menthol it has) and certainly cheap enough, but I haven't honestly convinced myself that I don't like 4711 a bit better. Something about the tinge of lemon.

No problem! I really like 4711. I personally find that aqua velva products perform a bit better, due to the glycerin, but their scents seem to have more staying power (at least Musk does). But don't forget about Lucky Tiger Aspen. Rive Gauche has that spicy fresh, woodsy scent, and I think Aspen does a great job of complimenting it, without taking over.

Btw I love Rive Gauche, more than any other fragrance I own. Since I realized the original was discontinued I have several of the tin can versions stocked away for future use (big bottles were $25/piece at Walmart!!)

Good luck!
