Anyone regularly satisfied with a socially acceptable shave?

Just curious if many folks around here are regularly satisfied with an SAS. I can only think of a handful of times over the years where I'd let myself stop at one pass or even two. I reach up, still feel stubble and am compelled to keep going. The times that I have let it go would be in the case of an extreme rush. I always try to set aside enough time for a "full" shave and if I don't get it done, it's not satisfying. That witch hazel and after shave wipe just doesn't feel right unless the mug is slick as can be!

Since I resumed shaving with DE/SE razors, my goal for almost every shave is BBS. Like you there are times when I just don't have the time necessary, so I go with the SAS. But I don't like it.

No. The only time I do a 1 pass is if there is a real reason, like a rash or severe sunburn, etc. I always do a 3.5 pass plus touch ups. BBS is always the goal and normally achieved quite comfortably. Of course, this is easier to do with some razors than others. My Senator & Sheraton are the best at it followed very, very closely by my 38HD C.

I'm satisfied when I get a DFS. A SAS would be difficult to swallow; I would feel exposed all day in front of my peers, superiors and sailors.

I shoot for BBS but never check for it while shaving. I'm batting about 750, so I do end up with a bit of noticeable fine sandpaper from time to time.

I shave daily and aim for what I call close and comfortable, not BBS. I might shave again in the evening if I'm going out. If I add passes to the morning shave in pursuit of perfection, I get irritation and itchiness.

Never. I HATE the way stubble FEELS and LOOKS after a SAS. After my first pass I will examine it and say to myself, "How can anyone find this acceptable?" At least 2 passes for me and usually some touchup. To me a single pass is a waste of time. In a hurry? - Shave the night before and do an exceptional job.

Most of the time during the work week I'm doing a shower shave with a Lord L6 and Barbasol Arctic Chill. Sometimes if I'm in a bigger hurry than usual I'll do single-pass and always get at least SAS... probably once a week.

I really prefer to avoid this, honestly. I'd say I go split half and half between BBS's and DFS's after 3 passes.... this is because my skin is VERY sensitive and I really don't like to push it by going for a 4th pass. The extra irritation is not worth it. Often I end up with BBS just by chance after 3, and an added bonus it is!!

+1. Since I'm already shaving I always aim to get the best shave. No point wasting time preparing for a shave just to leave stubbles in my face.

Nope, not me. 4 passes and clean up are the norm.

If I feel a whisker anywhere during the day I feel that I have not given myself as good a shave as I normally do so it is BBS every day and no regrets

Hard to know what's socially acceptable when stubble is the in thing. But I only aim to eliminate visible stubble. One pass and touch up. Don't even shave every day. I'm only here for the coffee.

I was just looking at the definitions and with my soft whiskers (but thick beard) I have to say that I am in the very same situation as Badger Bill. Sensitive skin and with 2 I get a dfs, with 3 I get VERY CLOSE to a bbs. Close enough that I have to look for a few stray short nubs on the neck.

My neck hairs grow in wild directions and if I fight with trying to get every stray I get irritation.

When I was learning to use a straight; absolutely. I didn't do a DE cleanup, right from the start. So I had to be willing to go out with less than BBS, which isn't too much of a problem, since I work from home.

It depends on your social agenda. For work it just has to look great, but I go for a BBS for a late night social event.

When I used an electric, I had to tolerate a SAS or the skin irritation on the neck would be pretty obvious. Using a DE, I can get DFS on my face with 2 passes (WTG, XTG) and CCS to DFS on my neck with WTG/ATG/XTG. At most a 15 minute job. (I'll qualify that by saying it depends on prep as well: I'm more likely to get irritation on my neck and under the chin if I use canned foam, but less likely if I use brushless cream.)

I do a wtg, and then a xtg pass with my Adjustable Injector and I've got a DFS shave. It looks smooth even if I can feel a little stubble, and it's good enough for any event where I'm the only one touching my face.

I usually go for DFS or BBS on the cheeks, but I have really thick hair that grows sideways on my sensitive neck and is just curly enough to get a bunch of ingrowns if I try too hard down there. I do 2 passes across the grain and call it good, just enough to where i can't feel the stubble when I stroke with the grain and can't see a shadow in the mirror. Occasionally I will go for a super smooth shave on the neck: :mad5:
