What's new

Anyone have the Sigma 30mm 1.4

B&H has the Sigma 30mm 1.4 for $289.00 on sale. Retails normally around $440.00. Im thinking about picking this lens up because I have a crop body and that would roughly be a 50mm lens that is fast at 1.4f. Does anyone have this lens. Im also considering picking up the new Canon 40mm pancake lens for $150 but cant buy both.

Anyone own this lense? Opinions? I do eventually want to go full frame someday so I'm not sure if the Sigma is the greatest choice but seems like a great price.

I had the Nikon mount version of the Sigma 30/1.4 and used it for many years on a crop body. The lens was sharp, a great focal length and a real joy to use. Depending on what other glass you have, I might be more tempted to grab the pancake as it will at least be full-frame compatible.

A 30mm at f/1.4 for only $289? Sounds like a great deal. I might even look into that. As for the 40mm pancake I've heard great things. I've been trying to choose between that and the 28mm.

I just went back and reviewed that Sigma 30mm. I had my eye on it back when it was $450. I have $250 in gift cards that I might use to buy this nice hunk of glass when I get home this evening.

Thanks for the heads up!

You bet. If you dont have B&H giftcards...Looks like you can find it on Amazon.com for that price too.

Did you ever get the lens? If so, how's it working out for you?

I had tha canon mount and sent it back due to the focus calibration being off.

I mentioned earlier that I was going to buy this lens with some gift cards I had lying around. After reading some reviews I ran across the calibration problems with cropped bodies. I have a T2i and was concerned with this and really don't want to take the risk.

I don't have it, but that's a great focal length to work with. If it's a quality lens, that's a great price!

I agree: great price for a great focal length. However, there seems to be a common complaint about sending the lens along with your camera to Sigma for them to re-calibrate on certain camera bodies.

I decided to wait on the lens. Still deciding between the 30mm or the Canon 40mm. I was a little turned off on the Sigma because it supposedly is not for full frame and that's the direction I want to go in the near future.
