What's new

Anyone familiar with G. L. Pease pipe tobacco?

Though we're in the heart of winter I find myself looking to the spring and thinking about what I want to put in my pipe. I started smoking a pipe about a year ago and have tried a few blends but still really don't know what I like. One of my favorites was a virginia blend I believe.

I'm looking to try some variety yet as I figure things out, and have heard lots of good things about the blends by G. L. Pease. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with any of his blends and if so which ones you would suggest to someone still relatively new to pipe smoking. I'm looking to try two blends, preferably different in styles. What are your thoughts?

I think Antique Hoosier is your man for this, butt can tell you that GL Pease has a great reputation,, have only tried myself Haddo's Delight and I liked it!

Mr Pease is a member and fairly regular poster at smokersforums of which I also read and occassionally post at. His collection of GBD pipes is a delight to look at.... Google Pease GBD Collection and have a gander. I want to try his tobacco as well after I work through some tins of other blends. Discontinued GL Pease tobacco goes for big bucks on ebay. Bohemian Scandal is one that garners high $$$$$

+1 on checking out the pipe smokers social group and I love Westminster. It's hard to make a specific recommendation without knowing your preferences. For example I like full rich tobaccos which might not be enjoyed by one who likes a lighter smoke.

For a true Virginia without any excess sugar or casing Union Square is hard to beat.

For a "heavier" English mixture try Westminster, my favorite English blend.

For a change of pace, Maltese Falcon, is a mixture of Virginias, Cyprian Latakia, and oriental leaf. Also very good.

Thanks for the responses everyone, I guess I'll just need to dive in and start trying things, oh no! :tongue_sm I have to say I've really been hankering for a bowl lately, and seeing Sherlock Holmes tonight did not help!

Also, if your wallet allows for the expenditure, the pipesandcigar.com site offers a sampler of 10 different tins of GLP tobacco for 89 dollars.

Can't go wrong with any of them. I am partial to Charing Cross, Embacadero, and Union Square. Haddo's Delight is my deserted island tobacco.

I wish, but being a poor college student with an unprecedented mid-year tuition hike, I can't have that kind of expenditure. Not to mention that would be a lot of tobacco for me. Of course now the idea is running through my head and I'm finding ways of rationalizing spending that much...

Haddo's Delight seems to be highly recommended, so I'll definitely give that a try. I'd like to get an english blend also, but one without too much latakia in it.

Thanks gents!

Great tobaccos!

My favorites:
Embarcadero
Maltese Falcon
Key Largo

tobaccoreviews.com is a great resource.

Watchoutnow, GLPease is in da house. (You never know, when you speak of the devil, when he'll show up.) I just stumbled upon this forum yesterday, and it looks like a great bunch of folks. I'm looking forward to poking around, getting the lay of the land and playing in the sandbox a bit.

Cheers,
Greg
