Anyone ever used the Kanayama Board strop?

Has anyone ever used this strop? Also if you haven't take a look at this

What foam would you use to put between the leather and wood?
To save on shipping I already bought some leather and I have someone who can make the wooden side. now I'm just wondering how to put it all together.

Which is why I'm asking what material should I use between the leather and the wood. I read that Iwasaki-san from the Iwasaki razors prefers the slight dip in the strop for Kamisoris. Also ... I was wondering about the electrical tape thingy....
it is an expensive overpriced bench strop anyone can make

there is also the coarse leather on the backside…

i've watched that piece for months now.. just a bit too pricey..

Tell me about it. So I decided to go with the DIY route. Bought some "italian“ leather and I have some wood. Looks like the tape is some other leather. Should I just staple the leather down? That white thing still confuses me.

Get it Jon, you can give us a lap by lap rundown on how well it works.

The thing is 8x2-3/4 btw, not as small as it looks from the pic.

memory foam, sponge maybe- another way is get a 1x4x16 oak or any hardwood and slice it in 3's fill in the handle with the same size as the blade on the table saw and put pieces on the end too. the slices will give to bending, put leather on top , a strop board that gives

Now you've gone TOO far!

Mods! Mods! Where's a moderator when you really need one? That obscenity needs to be expunged from the forums!

On the first day of school a first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Yankees fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Yankees fans. Wanting to impress their teacher, everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl.
The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says, "Janie, why didn't you raise your hand?"
"Because I'm not a Yankees fan," she replied.
The teacher, still shocked, asked, "Well, if you are not a Yankees fan, then who are you a fan of?"

"I am a Red Sox fan, and proud of it," Janie replied.
The teacher could not believe her ears. "Janie, why pray tell are you a Red Sox fan?"

"Because my mom is a Red Sox fan, and my dad is Red Sox fan, so I'm a Red Sox fan too!"
"Well," said the teacher in a obviously annoyed tone, "that is no reason for you to be a Red Sox fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom were an idiot and your dad were a moron, what would you be then?"
"Then," Janie smiled, "I'd be a Yankees fan."

kentos,

i like hanging strops quite a bit... so that's why i haven't pulled the trigger... although 8 is big , i have a vintage shell strop that could be turned into something like this, but i was thinking more of a small stretched loom strop.

come on now fellas, what makes Japanese leather better then American, or spanish or english for that matter-----------I think the Good ole US of A can stand up to anyone on leather and more------and then you bring the Red sox and Yanks in on it--------WOW LOL, thats like saying a mermaid is the same as an albacore---- I think these shots are against the "man code"

the only likely leather that standss up to this is horween. it's just different... if you haven't tried it, it's hard to judge... you may not find it worth it, but you'll likely say it's a different experience...

I hear ya:). I also prefer hanging strops myself.

A loom cordovan strop would be a thing of beauty!

It's not so much a Japanese thing vs American. There just isn't anyone alive anymore, anywhere, who makes a tried and proven cordovan hanging strop. There was a thread somewhere of an American made cordovan latigo, but no one ever tried one so it's hard to pull the trigger on one. I don't even know what cordovan latigo is.
I am a big fan of Tony Miller strops, which are made in the U S of A. His strops cost around the same too btw, and no 12 dollar strip of Tandy leather comes close, IMO. But then again I am biased LOL.
