Just curious ,anyone here ever started with a DE ?
I did so after just one shave with a fusion (thank you b&b !)

I'm guessing my first shave was circa 1970/71, ~14/15 years old, and would have been done with one of Dad's Gillette DEs. He might have bought one for me then but I don't remember. Canned shave cream. In college I switched to a plastic razor and then went back to DEs in my 20s, but it didn't last long and eventually I ended up using single blade plastic, usually a BIC, for a long long time.

No any more though...

My first shave was with a Tech I found in a bag of my dads old army stuff. Used that for a while (probably only needed to shave about once a week) and then bought some disposables and later a Gillette cartridge.

I started at 14 with an Atra or a Trac II, whichever my Dad was using at the time. Used a double bladed cart until I was 44. I used the occasional 3 blade whatever and tried the Fusion when it came out. Even tried the odd electric or two, but they always made my face a red irritated mess. I used the Gillette Sensor Excel the longest. However, the Fusion was the blade I was using that made me want to look for something else. Then I read an article and discovered DE shaving. I didn't know any better for 30 years. Cart's were how my Dad shaved so that's how I learned. My grandfather used a DE his whole life, but I was under the impression that was the old fashioned way of doing it and that carts were the future. No one told me any different. You never see anything in the stores or in ads about DE's. It's just how it was.

My son will be taught with a DE. He's Twelve now, but when the time comes he will be shown the way. What happens next is up to him.

Headed down to the corner Rexall and picked up a Schick Krona as my first razor.

i used catridges for 2 years..... an electric for a year :scared: then have used straights and des for last 3-4:001_tt1:

My shaving career started with a Phillips electric and remained that way for 25 years. Two years ago I fell in love with DE shaving. My face never touched a disposable razor.

I wish my father showed me the way. My father (47) doesn't use one. Never has, never will. I only shaved for 4 years with carts before I discovered the DE razor. I ordered one online and showed my grandpa. he said "Wow, I haven't used one of those in decades!" He opened up his closet, and still in the original box was an old 1934 Aristocrat. It looked like it'd seen thousands of shaves. "I almost forgot I even had this old thing still" he said. I'm not sure if he'll switch back to DE or not, but I won't use another cart ever in my life.

I used a Tech back in the days when I didn't have enough whiskers to really need to shave ... around 1969. Then went to an injector of some variety and on to the sensor twin blade. I remember there being much less blood with the Sensor but then I had no idea what good prep was.

It was about 1966 when I started shaving. No idea what it was but my father picked up some sort of DE for me. After a year or two we moved onto the Schick SE's!

Then I grew a beard and did an occasional trim round the edges with some sort of disposable for many years. Until I shaved the beard off, I never really knew how bad the multiblade things were!

For over 45 years I used nothing but a DE razor (the same one actually). After finding B&B this sort of "expanded" to include SE, injector, and straight razors but I still enjoy using DE razors more than any of the others I have tried.

So far I have never used a cart/system razor. I do own a couple that I have purchased (out of curiosity) but I have not tried any yet...

This is the set up I used for most of my shaving life....
