Anyone else hate menthol?

I'm sorry but I can't stand the jarring effect nor smell of products containing menthol or mint or any other cooling additives. Anyone else prefer a more mild start to their day?

I worked around menthol for a long time in the tobacco industry. I don't hate it, but it is not something I seek out. I have very little in the way of menthol in my den. Just some CO Bigelow and a few Aftershaves.

Yes. I hate it because I'm allergic to it. I can't use any product containing it. Of course, I also hate Lavender for the same reason. Odd allergies run in my family - my dad is deathly allergic to Aloe.

The first mentholated product I tried was Floid Vigoroso, which was quite a shock to me. I didn't like it and I still feel it's got too much for me, but I've come to enjoy the menthol in Aqua Velva and Skin Bracer. I still don't care for mentholated lather.

I don't hate it, but I don't care for it either. I don't use anything mentholated. There are so many good smelling/feeling soaps and creams out there that there's no need to.

I could not agree with you more Maximum. You nailed it for me with your phrase," jarring effect" Thats precisely how menthol effects me. I also have an allergy to it and it makes my skin break out in a rash. Its WAY too much cooling for my sensitive skin.

I thought I did till I came across products with menthol but without the eucalyptus; it seems I can't stand the eucalyptus but I am fine with menthol after all.

I love menthol - a few drops of menthol essential oil to the lather or ASB is a great experience, esp when couple with eucalyptus EO

I don't hate the smell of menthol, but I have always avoided it in shave supplies.

I kind of associate menthol with medicine. I have suffered from respiratory issues over the years and used menthol to help me breathe. I also regularly use mentholated pain patches. So I'm not looking for more menthol in my shaving products.

But that's not the only reason I avoid menthol. I tend to prefer unscented products in general--with a few major exceptions. But also, I was taught some time back to avoid anything with anesthetic properties until after shaving as it numbs the face and closes pores. I don't know if that is true or BS. Given all the love for soaps and creams with menthol, I am questioning what I have been taught. You guys certainly seem to know your stuff. So I will try a light menthol product (like Proraso) in the near future.

Oh another reason I avoid menthol creams/soaps: I had the displeasure of trying canned menthol creams in the past. Yuck.

People describe it as cooling but to me it's burning. I'm pretty sure it's an irritant, why people want to put it on their faces is a mystery to me. Takes all sorts I guess.

I dislike the smell of anything containing methol and Eucalyptus...same goes for anything with even the slightest tinge of citronella.
