Anyone collect "vintage" blades?

Odd question, maybe, but I picked up an e-bay lot for the razors, but it includes a slew of old blades, still in their respective packages/sleeves and such. Does anyone out there actually collect these, and do they have any value (depending on brand and era, of course)?

I have no interest in keeping them, as I don't display any of my shaving gear, and I'd never use them myself, so I'd just throw them away ... but I don't want to trash anything someone else might want.

Don't trash the blades. I'll take them off you hands. :biggrin1:

There is a thread around about using vintage blades, but I can't find it at the moment.

Ummmm.....There are some Personna 74's in that lot
Rumour is you can shave THIRTY times with one of those! I have a few but am waiting for the next year to try them out.
Throwing any of those away is nigh sacriledge!

Big L,
If he DOES give them to you then U owe me half for letting you in on The Could Be Lord's Experience!! :wink2:

Well then ...

That answers that question. And I can't hint at such a giveaway and not follow through, so ...

As soon as the blades are in my possession, I'll post better pics and give more detailed info, and then I s'pose y'all can fight it out (though I've already had dibs called on a couple packs ...)

:a45:.

He'll probably keep them for himself after that response! :001_smile

Perhaps the OP would like in on The Could Be Lord's Experience??
Perhaps he would like to trade ALL of his vintage blades for a taste of The Magical Misery Tour???? :biggrin1:

$28 for the five razors in that lot was a darn good deal without the blades. I could have saved myself a lot of money if I were better at spotting these lots in time.

Interesting that a lot of people would be willing to shave with these old DE blades, although I've thought of giving some old injectors a chance.

If someone here is a collector, I have a box of PAL hollow ground DE blades
with 3 blades left in it. I looked at one, and it had some rust spots on it, I was going to pitch them, but a collector may want them.
Free to the first gent sending me a PM asking for them.

When you say 'vintage' blades, I thought you were talking about some of the blue blades or other 30s-40s vintage. Those blades are not vintage, they are essentially NOS. If it were me, I would keep them and make use of them, give a report on what you think...IMO, you will be happy you did...

I have just returned home from a long holiday trip, and the blades are here. some are usable, some (in the slide-out packs, specifically) are not, as they've sorted of "crusted" together over time.

I'm trying to get caught up on things around here, and then I'll sort, photograph, and post them on the PIF.

74s? Old Wilks? Only some of the finest blades ever made are in that lot.
I concur.

And as far as "crusting together," Personnas were often packaged with a thin coat of oil that would harden over time. If you take the dispenser apart (easy to do, just grab a corner of the metal top with a pair of pliers and twist) you might find the blades to be still serviceable. Same goes for Schick and Gillette NOS blades.

I've had some luck loosening them up with a simple soak in isopropyl alcohol. Just immerse the whole dispenser for 24 hours and the blades can generally be nudged out pretty easily.
