Anyone Add Essential Oils to Astringent?

Before I came here, another forum was discussing traditional wetshaving and a member shared his own recipe for "home made" astringent:

Buy:

1 bottle of Thayers Witch Hazel with Aloe (I saw that GNC has this, but I got mine at Whole Foods Market)
1 bottle of Glycerine (any pharmacy has this and so does Whole Foods)
1 bottle of Peppermint Essential Oil (Whole Foods)
1 bottle of Lavender Essential Oil (Whole Foods)

Speeze out about 3 table spoons of the witch hazel down the drain (yes, wasteful, sue me)
squirt the glycerine into the bottle of witch hazel until close to full (about 2 table spoons
add 20 drops of Peppermint EO
add 10 drops of Lavender EO
(drops of EO's are tricky. you may want less than 20 or more than 20. my suggestion is start with 10 of peppermint, shake the WH bottle, and rub a little on your skin <put the lotion in the basket!!!> if you don't get some type of breakout of hives, goto 20 drops.) same goes for Lavender, start with a little and add to scent of your choosing.

I like a strong peppermint scent (and feel) with the undertone of lavender. really wakes you the **** up in the morning.

Notes on the Glycerin: Some people find this mix to be a little sticky/tacky on the skin. It could be the Glycerin - it may be the Aloe in the Thayers. Try it without the added Glycerin at first, and then add it in 1/2 teaspoonfuls if you want.

I was wondering if anyone had heard of this one, or if it comes from here, or is modified from a known formula. I've bought a few aftershaves here and there, and this is far and away the best aftershave I've ever used.

I actually add more peppermint (25-27 drops?), and also add Vanilla and Sandalwood to add to the smell. With so much EO, it gets slightly discolored, but it leaves a really cool sensation and lasts long enough that I never have irritation or redness.

Anyone heard of this one or know variations of it?

I suppose this may be what you want if you want to use Thayer's alone and like a very strong scent but I personally don't see the point. Thayer's already makes Lavender and Peppermint scented WH and they both already come with glycerin in them. I don't like super strong scents in my aftershave and after I put on Thayer's I'll usually put a little Nivea sensitive balm or face moisturizer on, which is full of glycerin anyway so no need for extra glycerin.

I've got two small 60 ml spray bottles. One contains Witch Hazel & 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil; the other Witch Hazel and 15 drops of Lavender EO.

I use one of them [normally the lavender] after the final rinse; I only use the WH/Tea Tree mix after a very spiteful Alum Block rub. :crying:
