What's new

Anybody long on PG?

Safe, good dividend play, good diversification. Worth holding long to balance the portfolio? Anything on the horizon that'd make em pop a bit?

I'm torn.

I assume your talking about Proctor and Gamble, and investing, they are in my line up. I do direct stock buys from them, super easy to set up and put money in monthly. Yes hold it for a long time.

Thanks. I don't buy a lot of individual stocks, but when I do I look for things I know and like. It certainly seems, especially with the acquisition of Art of Shaving, they're investing to protect and grow men's share for the long-term. I guess they're a buy and hold.

They are not a get rich quick, but they go up and up and up.

Once this new DE razor shaving thing takes off and cartridges become obsolete, they are going to zero!:a46:

Won't actually happen. Just wishful thinking on my part!:sneaky2:

Its still a good question you need to ask I'd you're investing. PG is much more than Gillette but they're clearly hedging their shaving bets with AoS. Would they be able to make up loss of cart $$ with oils, soaps, DEs and blades?

I haven't even looked at their reports of earnings calls yet. Just wondering what the locals here are thinking.

P&G reportedly paid $60 Million for AoS in 2009. They paid $57 Billion for Gillette Co. in 2005. Clearly, the money speaks to what product line P&G is banking on. What is interesting is how expensive cartridges have become in recent years. You know, since P&G took over Gillette!

Oh yeah; I do love companies who can jack price and make it stick…

I think most PG stock holders are looking for slow and steady growth, not a big pop. They have already had kind of growth spurt by being up more than 25% in the past year. There could be more pop to come, but who knows. As you allude to, I think of them as being a long term holding rather than any kind of hot trade.

Only true when you insist on Gillette made cartridges, and want to use the latest "technology".

When a Trac II razor does the job for you, cartridges can be had very inexpensively from various independent vendors; Personna, Dorco, Lord (I don't know who makes those for them).
No need to buy Gillette.
