What's new

Any Souplex users out there?

I bought some Souplex blades and used one this morning on my Progress set @ 3 with Klar Kabinett soap (one of my faves). The Progress setting was pretty aggressive as I felt the blade all of the time. However, there was no tugging, irritation, weepers, etc. Very close and smooth. Surprised by there being only a very minor AS sting with Froid Suave. Also, I find the word "Soup" very comforting. I think this will be a winner although I do not know how durable they are yet; ie, how many shaves they are good for.

Do any of you guys know who makes Souplex? Are they a Merkur brand (please say no!)? A Timor brand? Funny, they come in a white box, filled with smaller white boxes, with each blade wrapped in white paper -- no print anywhere, except on the blade itself. Perhaps you older guys remember "Brand X" commercials. That's what I thought I was getting, Brand X from Germany. But they seem quite good so far.

Medyna in Solingen makes Souplex.

I have not tried Souplex, but I have shaved with Timor, and it shaves well enough so I am not popping it out mid-shave like I have to do with some middle-of-the-road blades. Timor is a Giesen & Forthoff brand and their blades are probably made by Medyna in Solingen, Germany. I have seen some telescopic lens shots of the Timor and it appears to have a much more consistent grind than Merkur, with finer edges. The Souplex blades are supposedly a step up from the Timors, and I think they are even cheaper cost-wise.

Timor and Souplex are both excellent blades. Not widely distributed so you won't find a lot of comments about them. But I think you'll find that people that have tried them like them.

I did not have good luck with Souplex. They felt rough to me. I find Timor to be much smoother, but not in the top tier of sharpness that I prefer. YMMV.

They are made by Medyna indeed and I find them to be one of the smoothest blades out there. They used to come in a yellow/blue printed box but since 2 or 3 years the boxes are left completely white.

I love the Souplex blades, they are sharp, longlasting and give me a smooth shave. However the Timors I have have used worked quite the opposite for me, I don't like them at all. Weird, isn't it, as they come from he same manufacturer.

I found them slightly rougher than various Gillette/Polsilver blades but as sharp as Polsilver SI. In some way similar to Bolzanos. Not sure if I'd be ordering more. My go to blades are GSB in EJ DE89

Anyone know the best place to get the Souplex blades? I tried a google search, but most of the places were out of stock.

Space_Cadet

I don't have a funny description.
I have the same souplex razor but with a yellowish-white box and one vintage Souplex blade. If anyone wants pictures...
