I have an XDm but will be sold as soon as my LGS has a blue label glock 17 in stock. Not a bad pistol, but I like my glock better.

I just put a xdm on hold and will pick it up next week, I got the 4.5 inch barrel in 9mm. Now I just have to find 9mm in stock somewhere so I can get enough brass to start loading for it.

I have the XD40SC (which I passed down to the wife) and carry an XDM .45C daily. I'm very pleased with them, I prefer the grip angle to the Glocks and while many folks will gripe about the grip safety I like the fact that it's there.

XDM9 here in 4.5". LOTS of research before the purchase, I did not like Glock grip angle, just didn't feel confident with Walther PPQ quality, and didn't care for the mag release or the overall styling of the gun. For me it came down to XDM or a M&P. Decided on the XDM, it just seemed to give me a warm a fuzzy feeling. I've heard people complain about grip safeties, IMHO it's just a popular thing to complain about. It's never been an issue on any handgun I've owned, and I really don't even realize it's there.

As far as the grip safety goes, I don't even notice it's there when shooting.

Not when shooting, but it's a pain during takedown and clearing, especially clearing when it needs to be depressed but the finger is not on the trigger.
It would be much more "transparent" if it were a bit taller and wider. The 1911 has a grip safety and it is 100% transparent... you can't put pressure on the backstrap without depressing the safety.
The XD takes a concerted effort.

Really? I can't say I've noticed.

Apparently it's enough of an issue where some people have pinned it down and posted the procedure on several forums.

It depends on how you hold the grip when operating the slide.
I have a hard time "slingshotting" the slide unless it's after a reload to release a locked-back slide. I can't just pinch the slide and pull it into my right palm (which would depress the safety).
Instead, I have to shift my grip slightly to allow my weak hand to get a better grip on the slide.

Manually locking the slide back takes yet another grip in order to get my thumb into position to operate the slide lock.
The XD is the most difficult of my 5 semi-autos to operate.

I was thinking in terms of a 1911 clone, but now after reading this thread and seeing the specs; I would like to get one of these in 45ACP.
