Any Muhle R41 Love?

I hear the R89 and EJ89L talked up lately, a LOT. So I had to order one. It arrived and I must say that it is a fantastic piece. Quality finish and a very nice shave. However, I ordered it AFTER I thought I had already ordered one. Let me explain. I placed an overseas order for what I thought was the R89, but I mistakenly hit the R41 buy button. Once I checked the receipt to see how the shipping was coming I realized that I had ordered an R41, but the order had already been shipped. So I went ahead and ordered the R89 from WCS since returning the item back overseas would be more expensive than just offering it hear on the boards. So long story short, it arrived today. I had already started to put out feelers to sell it NIB, but when I saw it I had to pull it out and try it. Why not right, it was in my hands. Now I thought it was going to be too aggressive for me based on the old R89 open comb stories I've heard, and I'm lately a Tech guy so I did not have much optimism. Well HOLY *blank*, this is the SMOOTHEST razor I've ever used on my mug. First of all, for those seeking aggression move on, this is a MILD razor. I loaded it up with a relatively pedestrian Derby and wouldn't you know that I thought I was just removing the soap from my face without even making contact with the blade, except my whiskers were gone. Anyway, I'm really glad I tried it because it is now a keeper. My only criticism is that the head does not have a slot keeper so the blade needs to be sqaured by eye before the lockdown. I'll just have to live with that. Any other stories of success or otherwise with the new R41?

I have one that I purchased earlier this month and couldn't be happier with it. You may have lucked out because they're no longer showing it on the Muhle website - though it is in the catalog. EJ doesn't make an open comb, so for these 2 very similar razor offerings, there may not be an open comb option in the near future. I suspect though that EJ may come out with one in the future or Muhle may come out with an update. I would think that the open comb is a little more expensive to produce. I also have an EJ 89L, and though the razors are different, they are 2 nice razors to use in rotation. I like a little variety and would find it difficult to go back to using just one razor.

Well, I can lead you to my review of this razor and up till now I don't take back one word.

There is some sad news too about this one; it is still available through lots of vendors but Mühle stopped making them. I am seriously considering to buy me a spare....:blushing:

:lol::lol: That is my thread as well. I forgot to post it on here. Thanks for linking it:thumbup1: I love this razor!!! I have another on the way as a backup:blush:

There is a thread posted today containing a statement from Mühle that the R41 will be available again in mid-February.

Yes I saw that and am happy about that. The R-41 was gone from Mühle's website for over a month and I jumped to conclusions...:blushing:

Usually they state 'out of stock' or something alike...

I'll try to be a bit more carefull next time; don't like rumours too much, especially not when I am the one starting them!

Yes lots of love here...after a bucket load of vintage gillettes and the odd Merkur, this has definitely become a favourite.
