Any Gun Powder Fans?

Are there any other fans of Gun Powder extra special green tea out there?

I strongly recommend turning out the local Asian and Russian grocery stores for their loose leaf selections. You will find a goldmine of well-priced, amazing teas, from cultures for which tea is a central cultural icon. These teas will often be much more aromatic than anything else unless you go to the trendy, expensive spice importers, and they usually come in really fun metal cans that you can use for other stuff once you've depleted the tea. Some of my recent finds (all loose leaf, brewed in my French press) are Gun Powder, Aromatic Earl Grey, Aristocratic High Tea, and some amazing Russian minty herbal tea that I can't read the box of yet (but working on it).

Seriously, those places are hidden treasures!

Cheers...

Nope. We all drink only tea bags. Lipton, Tetley, and sometimes we go crazy and drink herbals. We have a >4000 post thread dedicated to our daily tea bags :lol::lol:

All kidding aside, the tea you find in most asian grocery stores is pretty pants.

You've obviously entered a den of very serious tea drinkers - But guys really, what is the most important factor in tea? Probably enjoyment. I get a kick out of how serious and anal some people are about their tea/ tea preparation. Are we preparing tea for ourselves or emperors?

So yes, we become more refined and focused in the attributes we prefer in a tea, but I bet more than a few of us would like to go back to the days when the Jasmine tea from the indian store blew our minds. SirPhobos, glad to have you as a tea drinker- I hope you enjoy your journey and exploration through the world of tea.

Are you implying that I'm not an emperor? :001_tt2:

I think the humor in my post may have been a bit dry. It wasn't intended to be snarky or demeaning.

Yeah, emoticons can only go so far  ... I just wanted to make sure SirPhobos felt welcome- given other people's timelines it should be about 3 months before he's posting pics and reviewing sheng.

Yeah I also didn't mean to come off as unwelcoming. Merely trying to provide an alternative. My first response was ungentlemanly.

Welcome to the forums SirPhobos! We hope you'll stick around.

I am quite fond of gunpowder - I find that it is one of those teas you can hardly go wrong with. Heck, I even risk buying gunpowder teas at coffee stores from time to time, because the rolled up leafs are less likely to have picked up aroma from the coffee in the shop.

But, as for now, I have discovered sheng puerh and Guan Yin oolong (having found my best Guan Yin yet at a local asian store actually) - so my gunpowder is sitting quite dormant on the shelf at the moment.

Regards.

Jakob

Almost all of the green tea I drink is gunpowder. I love the smoky flavor much more than the grassy flavor of other greens I've tried.
