Is it the base of an old paraffin lamp?
If so, it would normally have a glass bulb or tin and glass enclosure that would sit on top of it.

It's an Old Type. Could be a single ring, or a double ring. You can't see the top of the handle behind the base of the lamp. I can see the Pat info on the bottom, but can't read it. It would be worth a second look at least. Could be the Holy Grail, an early DR sitting there.

I do know that it's four pieces. I am going back on saturday to check it out. Will bring cash with me. It's in great shape.
Have them take it out of the case. Should be some markings on it that will tell you what it is. If not take more pics and try to find out before getting it
It does appear early, Bro. The tarnished look gives it away.

I was looking at pictures of a gillette 1904 and it looks very similar. Now I am itching to get back there. Will have to wait until saturday though.

Oh man, I need to get my eyes checked soon.
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a 3 piece and the handle has separated from the head. I also think there is another handle & head behind it. At least another handle. I don't think the smaller diameter handle goes with this razor.

Do you think the separation of the handle means it is broken? Or, does it just unscrew from the head?
It was a pressure joint I believe. It may have slipped off, but a little two part epoxy and it'll be fine. Porter or a few others would know more than I do.
