Antique Shaving Brushes

Why do antique brushes like the one shown below appear to curl rather than bloom?

Depends on what you wanna use it for. Brushes like that were never meant for or good for face lathering. They're made for making a ridiculous amount of lather in a mug... like the giant "pro" Omega's are today. Should work fine for that as it is.

I will take issue with that somewhat. The pro omegas are wonderful face lathering brushes. The silvertips are very good, too, but the omega holds its own in the bowl or on the face. One of the top all around bang for the buck brushes out there, IMO. Not to start an argument, just offering an opposing opinion. :001_tongu

Soak it, soap it a few times, and use it. You'll never know until you try it.

I don't know, but it could also reflect the manner in which it was used way back when. If a board brush with that kind of loft were being stirred in circles mainly in one direction day after day, I might expect it to get trained.
