Anti-BBS

Does anyone else never go for a BBS? It's not that I can't do it, but rather I simply look foolish with a BBS shave. I'm 27, so I'm probably in the stubble looks cool category, but I look full-on ridiculous with BBS.

What I've found though since transitioning from electrics (and part of the reason I love DE wet shaving) is that I can do one WTG pass with touchups and have that perfect 5 o'clock shadow everyday.

Anyone else with me?

Um.....no.

A) I absolutely HATE the so-called 5 o'clock shadow.

B) I think stubble looks stupid, not cool.

YMMV, obviously. But this is how I feel.

My facial hair is black and thick and even with a fresh BBS shave it's obvious where my beard lines are.

I might try the 1 WTG pass though. Might be kinda cool and it's probably good to give the skin a rest now and then as I tend to shave pretty aggressively.

I occasionally do one pass. It's easier on your skin and still looks good.

I used to be in the same boat, I think the 5 o'clock looks good and works well with the ladies. I used to plan the second half of my shaving week around making sure I had the perfect 5 o'clock.

Uh-oh, I hope I haven't opened up the gates on this thread

This is a pretty diverse group and I imagine many members would feel differently about how 5 o'clock shadows looked on any given other member, much less on their own face.

I normally go for DFS/BBS but like the look of having a bit of stubble too. On the other hand some guys try to sport a shadow and come off either as 1) douchebags, or 2) homeless guys

Shaving to have a 5 o'clock shadow is kind of counter-productive isn't?

No more so than trimming a beard with a clippers, or cutting your hair rather than shaving your head.

It's grooming to attain a specific look.

I also think OP is referring to shaving to end up with an informal shadow by the relaxing time of the evening, not starting his workday with one (assuming he's a first-shifter)

I think it's an age thing! Can feel the urge to start going on about "the youth of today"

I think the shadow look was even bigger 20-25 years ago (George Michael, for instance)

I think it's the youth of any day.

All the same, we'll stay off your lawn :)

My face always shows some shadow no matter how smooth I get it. Do many others have this? I've been wondering about this for some time. At least with DE shaving doing a light shave is doable on my face. I was never able to do a light shave with cartridges without feeling itchy all day.

Nate.

I strive for BBS on EVERY shave. I almost always get a BBS shave. If I wanted less than BBS then I would shave in the shower with a Mach 3.

Same thing here.

Yes, but not for the same reason. I usually go for a DFS using a two pass approach, sometimes 3. If I add another pass and touchup in the quest for a BBS, I usually end up with more irritation than it's worth.

Well, since two ingrowns from BBS turned to MRSA (looks just like a movie vampire bite) that I've been fighting for over a year, I've been satisfying myself with less, errrrr, enthusiasm . . .

You are not alone

Regards,

- John

I usually strive for BBS, but will try out a DFS/SAS shave with two quick passes.

I guess that puts me in the age group that doesn't feel like the stubbly look works for them.

It would be interesting to see a graph of age vs. stubble
