Another vintage gillette convert

Hi All

I recently picked up a '63 flare tip superspeed. I shaved with it for the first time today with a NOS UK wilkinson. The results were excellent. I was able to shave much faster with this than with any of my merkurs. This is the razor I would now recommend to a newbie. Very smooth and forgiving while still serving up a nice close shave. My slant shaves me closer but it takes much more time and concentration and the results are not dramatically better. The slant may become my weekend razor.

I was also very impressed by the build quality of this 46 year old razor. Everything lines up perfectly, identical blade exposure on each side. The TTO mechanism operates smoothly.

A breath of fresh air after the merkurs.

Cheers

I think that the blade angle has much more to do with how the shave will go that the blade gap. I thought I disliked all Merkurs until I tried the Long Handled Progress(w/custom knob) and Futur fully open. I think that this made the blade angle that I needed for a good shave. The extra longer handle and extra weight also help me not let the pace of the shave move too quickly which it when I would get irritation. Both razors have QC issues but they don't affect my shave so I don't care. Maybe they help? They both have a form of slantism.

First vintage i had was a gillette 49 ss, lovely and easy to use razor that i use in rotation today and as normal with gillette, built to last!
