Another use for the alum block

Hello all, I've just returned from a week long cruise from N.Y. to Bermuda. An excellent time was had by myself, my wife, and my 11 year old daughter, but then its hard not to have a good time on a cruise.

Being that we were in Bermuda for 3 days, we had a chance to get around the island a bit. One day while at the beach I somehow cut my big toe either on some coral or other sharp object. Anyway I didn't even feel the initial cut, but it had to be something really sharp as the cut was a very clean one. I didn't even notice it until I was sitting in a chair and noticed the sand on my foot to be red in color. Thinking I had stepped in something I brushed the sand off, and noticed that it was blood. The cut didn't hurt so I put my foot into the salt water to help clean it up. Once back on the ship, the cut had stopped bleeding, so I was looking for something to put on it. I thought of the alum block. Knowing the block was antiseptic I knew it would be good for the cut. While the initial application stung like h***, but I knew it would help. The cut had stopped bleeding, so I went to bed soon after that. In the morning much of the pain and soreness from the cut had gone, and I continued to apply the alum block 2 times a day. Its now been 6 days since I was cut, and though still a bit sore there is no sign of any infection, and the cut is healing nicely.

Sometimes simple natural alternatives work better than spending time, and a good deal of money on our so called modern medical treatments. This has worked very good for me, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it again. :thumbup1:

Hey Paul,

Bummer about your toe, I always seem to cut one of my fingers right before a fishing trip or out of town vacation, ugh! Thanks for the tip, I'll be bringing my alum block to elk camp with me this year, never know when it might come in handy. Have a good one!

Nice story. Glad it all worked out well. I hope you picked up some Royall Lyme, or Royall something while you were down there. Cheers.

Well done

One of our 'D' list celebrities had a coral cut whilst filming a local Celebrity Reality Survivor/Treasure Island/Big Brother type programme and was hospitalised with quite a serious illness because of it

That must be a razor sharp coral! Usually, you don't feel it and bam, blood... Nice use of the block! I don't like it because it hurt like there's no tomorrow... Good work!

Thanks for the tip, I was going to toss mine because it does nothing for my face. In fact it irritates it more than it helps.
I'll keep it with the first aid stuff.
