What's new

Another shavemac thread....

This shavemac was my first brush (44140 regular silvertip with 23/54mm knot), if I discount my AOS Pure Badger which I bought out of ignorance and as soon as I touched a silvertip that poor pure badger never saw the light of day again...

I have have a few shavemacs by now, some custom, some right off the shelf. Most of them are regular silvertip as I like the softness of them over the more dense 2 D01 3 band. I have not tried a 2 band D01.... likely too prickly for me...

I never had an issue with a shavemac brush and Bernd is wonderful to deal with when it comes to customizing the brush.

I am also adding a RV shavemac custom here with boxelderburl handle and a 25/50mm knot... great face lathering brush...

have you tried their extreme flat top knot? I have that one on my list for sometime in the next year or two and am curious about how it compares to the bulb shaped.

Very nice, German. The Silvertip Shavemacs are very soft with excellent flow. Also, it's great that knots can be customized. In addition, there are so many handle styles to pick from. The oportunity to ask Rudy to make a custom handle with a Shavemac knot makes the choices tough and endless.
Here is my current trio:

Might as well ask here rather than start another thread (unless I don't get an answer). Has any one got, or even seen one of those Bruyere Wood handled Shavemacs. The pics at their website are awsome. I was just wondering if they really do look that good.

Those are all beautiful brushes gentlemen. The Shavemac brushes are great performers and a pleasure to use. Allow me to submit my trio below. I purchased the knots from Rudy and set them in some handles that I liked very much but had developed cases of terminal shedding. I thought that the handles were worthy of top notch knots and they have not disappointed. They are a pleasure to use.

Regards,

Doug

My apologies gentlemen, I neglected to include the specifications on the above brushes. They are all DO1 two band knots. The dimensions are taken with my caliper and are as follows:

1. The brush on the left is a fan and is set in a RL Safari pewter handle and has a 23 mm knot set at a 49 mm loft.

2. The brush in the center is an extreme flat top and is set in a Vulfix Burlington handle and has a 22 mm knot set at a 45 mm loft.

3. The brush in the center is a bulb set in a Vulfix pewter handle and has a 25 mm knot set at 51 mm.

They are wonderful brushes and I enjoy them very much as do you gentlemen.

Regards,

Doug

After all, I haven't tried a D01 yet.... I wonder if I could get Bernd to set it with a 2-Band.. It would be a nice companion to this restore of my father's brush he did for me....

You guys with the trios (fan, flat top, and bulb). What applications are best with each brush: creams vs soaps; and boal lather vs face lather vs hand lather. Which brush is your favorite?

My bulb is Silvertip, the other two are D01. They all work well with soaps, creams, bowl, and face lathering. What matters to me is the softness of the tips and the splay. The Silvertip is very soft and feels more luxurious on the face. It's unique, and I can't compare it to any other 3-band brushes I've used, except Savile Row of course. The D01 fan is stiffer and denser, has more scrub still having great flow through. The flat top compensates the stiffness and density of the D01, thus making it feel bigger on the face. The knot still keeps its shape very well due to the resilient springy hair.

Bernd will set anything you want in the handle. When I had my Shavemac made, the handle I wanted wasn't on the Expert Select and he just had me put it in comments on the order and they did it.
