Should I try Shavemac again?

I have a very limited experience with Shavemac, but based on my brushes (all made in 2023) I would say that in terms of bakbone,

Two Band > Three Band D01 >> Three Band (Silvertip).

The Two Band is already at the upper limit of my liking in terms of backbone, so I have never purchased a Two Band D01.

I always say the two-band D01 is not for the faint hearted. Jim here of B&b said years ago "you can jack up your car with the two-band D01".
The hair is a much thicker stemmed hair than other hair, thus giving the brush a huge backbone, and some might feel this not too comfortable. A few are chosen and they love this knot. I have never observed scritch, scrubby, yes, they can be.
I have only fan and flat tops, never used a bulb, and from other brushes I know that bulbs are normally a bit stronger in the backbone due to the shorter outside hairs supporting the knot. Knots, however, will loosen up during the break in phase. I would not judge this after just a couple of uses; and yes, I always recommend to soak the knot 5-10 minutes before use.

The standard two-band silvertip is definitely not such a beast regarding backbone and scrub. I think, I have something like 10 of them from 22-28 and both bulbs and fans, and never felt them to be scritchy or uncomfortable in any way. In my opinion they are the right mix of backbone and softness.
The three bands, both the D01 and the standard are, very soft. The D01 is very much packed with hair and needs to be cleaned very thoroughly after use so all the soap/cream residue is removed (otherwise, the hair may breakdown fast and the brush can shed - I have only two D01-3-bands, and never lost a hair in them) - this hair is a very fine hair.

I would use that D01 for a while. I'd say at least 20 shaves are necessary to break it in. Of course, I may not be the guy to ask as I do not have sensitive skin, and I prefer a scrubby brush with strong backbone. I have Shavemacs in 2 band, D01 2 band, and D01 Silvertip (3 band). All are great, but the 2 bands have less density and backbone, and are definitely softer feeling to me. I don't mean softer tips. It is more of an overall softness that I would attribute to the weaker backbone and lower density.

I should clarify. The regular 2 bands have less density and backbone than the D01 2 band and D01 Silvertip.

My DO1- 2Band fan is turning out to be one of my favorite go to brushes I have, and all others are either Shavemac or Rudy’s phenomenal Silvertip 2 Bands which are great brushes too. I had the DO1- 2Band 24mm knot lengthened to 52mm. This not only provides backbone but softens it up a bit. I didn’t know how the DO1-2Band was going to be but Bernd built for me a first class brush.

Maybe I missed it, but no one seems to have mentioned that one of the most attractive features of Shavemac has been removed: the Configurator 🥲 🥲

Shavemac has also stopped selling to end customers, so you are left with what a reseller chooses to offer. 🥲

I really like Shavemacs, but I expect any new brush(es) that I might buy in the future (I have too many already, but then again, who hasn’t?) to come from somewhere else.

Yep there were some threads that Shavemac was stopping direct sales. I kick myself for not ordering sooner. Interestingly enough you seem to be able to still directly order knots... not sure if that's a bug on the website or it's still possible.

I cannot find that on their main (new) page, so maybe the knot configurator was not removed yet. I wish they would still directly sell knots though.

I did not see any way on their site to order knots. You have the choice of a few resellers in the USA and Europe, but no knots. However, I am still able to buy knots from them.

does not work, odd how did you get to this??
If you google Shavemac, one of the first results is that page. However, it looks incomplete and I don't think it will work if one would try to directly order from them.

I know makers like you can still order knots, but that's something else.
