What's new

And she said "yes" .

Like most things in my life, my wife of 30 years is involved with my activities either directly or is very supportive. We share a love for the outdoors, our dogs and the shooting sports. I have been involved in wet shaving since June after my Son bought my first razor and gear for me for Father's Day. And my wife has helped me to find vintage shaving gear, brushes and razors and has shared an interest in the history of wet shaving.

Last night I "popped the question" and asked her if I found a Lady Gillette in great condition, cleaned it and disinfected it, would she use it? And she said "Yes".

So, I have my eyes on a couple right now and look forward to getting one home so that my wife can further share in what I have found.

Hello Frank. It sounds like you and I have very similar wives, although we only have 16 years under our belts. My wife has also been as supportive of any of my hobbies or interests over the years as any wife could be. From guitars to cigars and pipes to wet shaving. In return, I have been as supportive of hers, although if I am honest I feel that I have not supported her as well as she has me. She wouldn't say that, so that is all that really matters.

A couple of months ago I handed my wife a user grade Aristocrat. She had a very good first shave and used it for the next month or so. Then I started showing her pictures of the Lady Gillette's and she really liked the blue model. I finally found one in good enough shape a couple of weeks ago and she's had it for a couple of weeks. She loves it and finds it as mild as the Aristocrat but loves the longer, slim handle. I set my wife up with her own stash of Astra blades, some coconut TOBS and she uses my Kent BK8 whenever she shaves. She is just as content as can be.

I hope your wife loves her razor as much as mine. And congratulations on 30 years with your wife.

Jeff,

Thank you for the kind comments and for sharing your story too. To stay married, it requires commitment and mutual respect as you have accurately shared.

Many more happy years of marriage to you and your bride.

Now half as wise
My wife absconded with my EJ shortly after I got it and never looked back. I showed her a Lady Gillette in an antique store, but she really prefers the EJ.

Question for anyone here: What are some of the creams/ soaps that the ladies prefer?

Jeff mentioned TOBS coconut, any other suggestions?

Frank

Guys, that's so cool. I offered to buy my wife a razor, I'm waiting on her decision. My 17 year old daughter is very interested in wet shaving. I already have 1 of 3 sons. Working on #2..

Tobs rose is nice. That's what my wife used and has a nice scent.. Then there is Mdc. She bought "me" three of them because I liked them so much:D

Seems like things worked out pretty well since she said "yes" 30 years ago.

Yes Sir. I'm very fortunate that she has stayed with me these many years through service to Country overseas, hardship and good times.

Sorry fellas, but I am the luckiest man in the world as far as I know.

Well,

I struck out on two nice cased Lady Gillette's on the Bay tonight. Wife wants a Blue one with a case no matter the date code. Guess I need to wait a little while longer to get her started. Thanks for all the suggestions on the shave creams and soaps however.

Frank

That is cool. After what my wife did to my shave den I hope some day to convert her. One good turn deserves another. Good luck on the hunting.
