What's new

An unbelievable find!

Looking for a shaving soap in a local pharmacy I found a single, solitary, dusty puck of Col. Conk Bay Rum Shaving Soap. To be honest, the last thing I ever thought to find here in New Zealand. Thankfully I recognised the name from spending time here on B&B. I rescued it from dusty oblivion. The assistant told me they'd had it on the shelves since last year!

Just a question though: the puck is in a plastic container slightly deeper than the puck itself. Is it best left in here, moved to a mug (I have an Old Spice mug sitting in the den looking decorative) or does it need to be milled? Any advice on this would be appreciated - all my soaps to date arrived in wooden bowls.

Thanks in advance

Roy

Any of the above will work, although leaving it in the little plastic thing it comes in gets messy.

I have plastic containers like what Mama Bear's soaps come in that I keep all of my soaps in except I have some Lime Col. Conk in the VDH bowl that came with my brush and I have a puck of Col. Conk Bay Rum in a Col. Conk mug I bought when I bought my starter supplies.

If I was you I would probably throw it in the old spice mug then microwave it for 10 seconds at a time until it is melted then just wait for it to harden before using.

i left mine in there, i need to bust that soap out, he hasnt had any use in aaaaaaages, and he is a good little worker.

I have used that soap for many years and it is still in my rotation. I put it in a Old Spice mug and it works perfectly. A shave or two and it will be glued to the mug. I have never found it necessary to melt it into the mug. I think that you will enjoy this soap. With the right water it will provide mounds of lather.

Enjoy your shaves,

Doug

glycerine soaps seem to dissipate their scent faster if not covered. I'd either leave it in the plastic or find a container.

Couple of microwave bursts melted the puck down, I added some Trumpers Bay Rum whilst it was liquid and gave it a good stir, popped the mug into the fridge to solidify the liquid and found a glass lid that fits the Old Spice mug. Job done and thanks to you guys for your advice.

Hi Roy

Was up in Auckland a few months ago and found Col. Conks stuff at: Shaver Shop, 80 Pitt St, Auckland - N.Z.

But I now see that they can't get the Bay Rum anymore with No ETA for re-supply :mad3:

Just a question though: the puck is in a plastic container slightly deeper than the puck itself.....

I removed mine (Lime & Bay Rum) and nuked them in microwave, as you have done, and got them to melt into glass-jars (SWMBO old face cream jars) with screw-top lids.

All worked great. :euro:
