An experiment with Jeris hair tonic?

Has anyone noticed that the ingredient lists for Jeris hair tonic w/o oil, and Osage Rub are strikingly similar? The Osage Rub has menthol, and eucalyptol which the hair tonic does not. The hair tonic also includes boric acid, which is also a mild antiseptic.

The question is this, if one were to add a bunch of menthol crystals to the Jeris hair tonic, would I basically have a clone of Osage Rub?

I only ask, as I wasn't thrilled with the performance of the hair tonic, but noticed the similarities, and thought I could create some FrankenOsage.

Anybody else tried this?

Yes, it's the one without oil, same company, same bottle, same color....just three ingredients separate hair tonic from Osage rub. I know Osage is cheap, but I think I'll order some menthol crystals and give it a try.

Osage may be cheap, but shipping is a ton and it is damn hard to find locally. If I ever find it in the wild, I will buy a ton of it.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but did anything ever happen with this? I can only find the Hair Tonic ( no oil ) and wondered if adding the Menthol to it worked or not?

my barber mixes it half and half with witch hazel and uses it as a tonic.i like it .
in fact i just bought w/h and jeri's and made a batch for home use.although i added a bit more glycerin, and made my mix 60% jeris 40% w/h.

A long overdue update: After being away from B&B for a long time, I finally finished this small experiment. I ended up achieving good results, utilizing some menthol crystals I'd bought on ebay. Deciding not to muss and fuss with weighing, or measuring the crystals I just added them in the Jeris hair tonic bottle until there was no more airspace in the bottle neck. A full 14oz. bottle.

The crystals melted just fine in about 15 minutes, and the final result was very good. I'd say as cold or colder as my regular osage rub. The Hair tonic version does require a quick turn over of the bottle to mix it pre-use, and the juice is a little opaque, not purely clear like osage rub.

My version is missing the Eucalyptol, but makes a nice alternative when I'm out of Osage, or it's tough to find, etc. I liked the reults so much I added menthol crystals to my Dominica Lime bay Rum, for an extra cooling kick!
