Alum Blocks vs Alternatives

I just read about alums blocks yesterday and am interested in giving on a try. However, we have these two products sitting in the house. I have read about the supposed differences between ammonium alum vs potassium alum. Potassium alum is natural and ammonium alum is synthetic? Should I splash either of these on my face or just order a block?

I currently use the Crystal and notice no difference from when I used to use and alum block I bought at an Indian grocery store.

Just have my face a good rubbing of the Crystal and notice no unpleasantries. Note that I have not shave since last night, so I will try again when I shave again. It should be fine as an occasional astringent type item, right?

I use only potassium alum on my face and pits. Works great. No complaints.

...Potassium alum is natural and ammonium alum is synthetic...
This is my understanding as well, but I am far from being a chemistry expert.
I learned from my own experience that ammonium alum does not go well on my skin. Potassium alum works wonders for me, regardless of application.

First one pictured is Ammonium Alum, so I would stay away.
Second is a spray bottle that I used and it is Potassium Alum and distilled water. While I have never used it as an aftershave spray , I don't see why it wouldn't work.

One alum block dedicated for face wouldn't hurt, IMO.
