What's new

Al's Casablanca and Calypso

I was looking to expand my cream experience beyond TOBS, QCS, and T&H creams. After reading about Al's i wanted to give these a shot. Received my order today with an included sample of Rosebud. At first whip, I really, really like these scents. They are not overpowering, they are subtle, but they still are very defined. I'm not a fan of powerful scents-(I just sold off full canisters of TOBS Sandalwood and Eton College) these are not overpowering-including the Rosewood. They are just the right amount of scent.
My interpretation of each-I'll add to this post a review after shaving with each.

Calypso- it really does have a nice crisp, clean scent at first sniff, but it has some spiciness to it, but again, not overbearing. It kind of hangs out in the background when you smell it. I actaually hope the spiciness comes out a bit while shaving with it. The description on the site says - On top of this, there is also, strangely, a shadowy, deep, mysterious, spicy quality. The scent itself may be relatively simple but its impression is complex--can't be stated any better. It's a great scent. I hope the shave holds up to Al's fabulous lathering reputation. Can't wait.

Casablanca- limited time scent- the strength of the scent is perfect. At first smell, citrus notes take over, with some peppery spiciness following. Again a scent that is not overbearing. I also hope it lathers as expected. For a limited time scent, I thought it might be stronger, but it's very nice and refreshing. Much like Mikes Orange, Cedar,Pepper. Again, can't wait to report back after a shave.

Rosewood-as someone who's dumped all floral/flowery, perfumey scents I end up with, I figured this freebie sample may have the same result-send it out whem I sell something. Not the case here. This is flowery, but very mildly done. Really quite a pleasure for me to take a whiff. It smells quite nice and clean/crisp. Another I'll come back and report on after shaving.

Al's has quite the rep for killer lather, I hope it performs as expected.

Tomorrow's shave wll start with Casablanca, a Feather Blade in my Weber DMT
My Rudy Vey Two-band shredded money 24mm brush
bowl lathered, followed with Thayers Lemon WH
then the Burrnnn- the Captain Co9T, maybe a splash of Lime with it.
Ending with a slathering of Lucky Tiger.

Sounds like a good shave day for me.

Report back in a couple days with results- and pics( no pics it didn't happen....I know:001_smile)

happy shaves!!

I like Al's, but I like Nancy Boy even better. Give the Blossomwood a shot. It has an herb like scent to it reminiscent of Speik, but better in my opinion.

Nice selection there...I've made it about halfway through a sampler of Al's creams and I think Boheme and Calypso are my two favorites so far (Goodfellas is nice too...didn't like Saigon). The scents change as you lather too, take a few whiffs as the cream turns to lather...they're different than just straight out of the jar.

Al's is a great quality product, enjoy the shaves!

I really like the Goodfellas cream but not the Saigon. Al made me a custom Lemon scent cream that was superb. He really knows what he's doing. Craig

I would encourage everyone to consider contacting Al for any scent whims you may have too.

He's a pleasure to work with, and the custom scents I've asked him to create turned out better than anything I would have imagined.

I looooooove Casablanca. It's so unique and the quality of the products themselves are outstanding. Really recommend trying this.

I have to say, the scent was quite unique when I first smelled it and I didn't like it at first, but now it's the top of my list above t&h, gft, tobs, et al. I hope Al's products are around for a long time! I was so wrong! It's awesome!

the after shave balm is so soothing and lovely too.
