What's new

Alright....who's been clipped?

My wife and I have been talking about having another baby lately, especially because we want a little girl but whatever we're blessed with will be heaven. We have two boys 5 and 2 and they are always asking for a sister and I think are ready to help since they are so attentive to babies.

My wife is a police officer and has been thinking about moving off the streets and going into another division and feels when her agency begins to hire and move folks around as soon as the economy lightens up it will be a perfect time to move or she's even thought about going to dispatch and have a baby before the transition.

Well heres the kicker, I had a vasectomy a few years ago. When I had my procedure it wasn't pretty and I wasn't one of those who were up and around in a few days. My neighbor had his reversed to try for a boy and it worked, he and his wife just found out they're expecting their 4 girl:lol:. He hated it and was in more pain than when he had his vasectomy. But besides internet findings I don't know anyone who has had it reversed so I come to you guys who may have had there's reversed and can provide and insight.

We've thought about adoption too.

Touchy :)biggrin1:) subject I know.

I do not live in Gilbert, nor have I been clipped, but, if you can get yourself to the nearest large teaching hospital, you will quickly find out what your prospects are. The large medical institutions are amazing. Time has certainly passed since your experience. The medical community has gained much experience in that time. Find the right people, and you will get good answers. There are fertility spe......ts everywhere in the USA now.

Well this system will not let me use the word spe......ts. What's the deal?

Unpleasant vasectomys....... :001_smile

At the time I was ready for the snip job there was lots of talk about a new procedure that involved not snipping the vas deferens but actually putting a "marble" in there to stop the flow of the sperm. Ya wanted to stop "firing blanks" they just went in and removed the marble.

This wasn't available at the time so went the "traditional way ".

Now I've got a blood disorder ( Von Willebrands ), so I work with my haemotologist to get blood factor infusions pumped in before and after the operation etc...etc........ Things should have gone really smoothly.

The problem was knocked the side of my foot into the crankcase of my motorcycle the day before stuffing around in a paddock. Yes I should have had proper boots on but didn't......:bored:

So on the Sunday night I end up in Emergency and with 7 stitches in my ankle and more blood factor infusions.

The next morning I hobble INTO the surgery to get the procedure done. Only had a local, but not enough so I can still feel the "first cut" , need to have more anaesthetic. The doctor keeps going "Geez, you really are a bleeder !!".......

Long and short, 1 week later I'm actually finally good again, the damned cuts weeped for the whole week despite 2 ADDITIONAL tranfusions and 12 needle injections. My system had gone into overload with the ankle and the ..umm...goolies, and all the additional transfusions and injections made me sick as a dog !!!

Please don't let me put you off it's a pretty unique set of circumstances.

And yes the wife and I have recently discussed adoption and reversal. I'm too bloody old though for a baby again. The 16, 14 and 12 year old run me ragged as it is.

We did finally come to a solution :

I got snipped quite a few years ago. From what I was told at the time, the success rate is very closely linked to the length of time since the vasectomy. The longer you wait, the less likely of it being successful. I think from memory that under 5 years had a relatively high success rate.

I'm at the 5 year mark and was told it is about 88% return of sperm but the pregnancy rate is right about or under 50%. Can't really figure that one out:001_huh:

I've joked around with friends about having a "secret vasectomy". That way, if a vindictive and promiscuous girlfriend tries to pin a pregnancy on me, I could bring out the notarized papers saying that I'm sterile.

CALM DOWN, it's just a joke.

Oh, I believe they can actually take sperm direct from the testicle using a big needle as an option :scared:

I got snipped after my wife and I got a middle aged surprise--I guess not everything stays in Vegas. With 4 boys, I had and have no interest in a reversal, so my urologist snipped the tubes and then tied them in a certain way to make reversing the procedure next to impossible. You may want to check on what procedure your urologist used to see if that's an issue, too.

I just heard in the back of my head Maury Pauvich saying, "Dizzy, you are NOT the father".

I don't have kids and I haven't gotten the snip. I don't know much about medicine, either.

But I wanted to put in a word for adoption. There are lots and lots of children all over the world looking for a good home. No surgery, no pregnancy, no childbirth. You've already passed on your DNA, too. More importantly, the chances of getting a girl are about 100%.

I agree. I think there are many kids in the U.S. who we would love to provide a loving home for. So it is a very high option and even with those odds I'm pretty happy:tongue_sm

Wow, I never thought of that. I had mine done with whatever iron clasp procedure was available. I remember smoke coming up from under there so I think they cauterized the ends too. Thanks for that to consider too.

You forgot the sizzling sound and the smell too :001_smile

Have never had one, even though my two kids are enough and being married for nearly twenty years almost makes getting one about as sensical as a vegan getting a stomach staple.

After reading Dave Barry's description of his snipping in his latest book, I think I may pass in this lifetime, or, if I ever decide to get one, ask for what he calls the "Full Coward Package."

A significant amount of men develop antibodies against their own spermatazoa.

:a46: +100 on adoption!!!

I'm pushing for that.

So, how's everyone's breakfast this morning? :lol::lol::lol:

(Seriously, Mark, good luck with everything.)
:lol::lol:

Well at least if there was anyone who was ever debating getting clipped now may get pushed away even more:biggrin1:

Had to look that one up, thought I was missing something:lol::lol:
