Allagash Beer

Allagash Beer, where have you been? Better yet, where have I been that I hadn't heard or tasted it before reading about it on a thread on B&B. I went looking for the Allagash Curieux, but my local store didn't have it. Instead they did have the Classic Allagash Dubbel and Tripel. I went for the Tripel.

Wow. At first taste I thought, "This is very potent, almost a little spicy, and I may not like this." However, after I actually let it breathe for a minute, the real flavor and taste came out. Yes, it is still potent, but the sharpness of the approximately 9% alcohol content began to fade and the full body of the beer began to shine through. Did I mention it was strong? But then again, I should have nursed it and enjoyed it a little longer. That also would have muted some of the kick.

Aside from the Curieux which is next on my list (the local store has to special order it), has anyone tasted some of the other Allagash offerings? If so, which would you recommend?

Most of the Allagash beers are fantastic... You stumbled upon a fantastic beer with the triple.

If yo REALLY want to be blown away, try the Curieux, and some of the other special releases from them. Most are very delicate, and incredibly complex. Curieux is fantastic, but also look for Odyssey, Fluxus, Victor, and Musette. If you happen to have any money left after that, try a bottle of Interlude... Possibly the best marriage of beer and wine that I've ever experienced. In any case, all of their beers are fantastic. They may be expensive, but as long as they have been taken care of, they are worth every penny.

I'm a big Allagash fan, the Curieux is one of the best beers I've had. I've actually got a bottle of Black chilling ready to be enjoyed, with bottles of Four, Dubbel and Trippel not far behind

I am ready. I think I have to find a better local store so they won't have to be special ordered. I will report back as I try the others.

Had the Curieux last night.

WOW!

Bourbon without the bourbon burn. Smooth beer aftertaste. I loved it. I don't know that it was worth $16/bottle, but it was excellent.

My votes for the simple, delicious, Allagash White!:lol::lol:

I just had the Allagash White. I gotta be honest, it was meeehhh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting. It tasted more like a beer for the Fall and early Winter.

I agree to an extent. IMO it is a colder weather beer, perfect to knock back while watching some leaves or snow fall, preferably while inside next to a cozy fire.

Oh...and I posted that mid February; in these parts, 'winter' = WINTER, regardless of if its the beginning, middle, or end. :wink2:
