Aftershaves that you consider to be keepers

I tried many aftershaves since I signed up here. My favourites are made in Japan but since they are not easily accessible, it's not worth it. If I travel there or someone I know goes there, I will make sure that they fill their suitcases with a long list of stuff that I want them to bring me back! I then look at what I have at my local pharmacy or grocery store and I can easily live with that. Sure, I like the imported AS here and there. I even started a list of what I could get to see the best price / 100ml for that AS. I include the taxes and shipping (where applicable) so that way I know where to go to get the best deal.

Price is not the only factor, I got to like it. I don't have the largest collection of aftershaves on this board but I can slowly see that it will be reduced to a few.

I can see the following being in a regular rotation

I have a certain love for mentholated stuff. I also like the Australian Brut Splash and the Old Spice Original is starting to grow on me (still waiting for the Indian Old Spice to show up in the mail).

I like those three, not only because they have menthol but I have a non-greasy feeling afterward. My skin feels dry but not too dry, just how I like it. The scent is a big factor too.

I then have other stuff like Booster (I like it very much but they don't do mentholated stuff). Booster is made here and I like to buy locally except, I can't find it easily. The vendors are running out of stock often which is a bummer!

I also have Pinaud Clubman and Lilac Vegetal. I will probably finish them and won't renew the stock. Don't get me wrong, they are good but I don't find that they are as good as my top 3 AS.

what about you? which AS are more likely to make the cut and why?

The ones I keep and will always replenish are:

  1. Pinaud Clubman
  2. Pinaud Lilac Vegetal
  3. Aqua Velva Ice Blue
  4. Pinaud Classic Vanilla
  5. Mennen Skin Bracer (original-green)
  6. Old Spice
  7. English Leather
  8. Aramis

I numbered them in my estimation of most-to-least frequent use. Obviously, from that list, I started shaving in the '70s in the U.S. By the time I get to the English Leather and Aramis, they last for a decade, I use them so infrequently. But I like knowing they are available!

I did like Armani Code, which my wife got me. I dropped it and it broke. And it's too expensive to replace, although I may do it just because SWMBO liked it. Might be advisable.

Mine in no particular order would be:

1. Pinaud Clubman
2. Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla
3. Speick
4. Old Spice Classic
5. AV Ice Blue
6. AV Ice Sport
7. Proraso Splash

As to why, it's how my skin feels when I put then on as well as the scent.

Speick & Pitralon.

I dont care much for Skin Bracer, AV...Proraso is ok, nothing special.
MY skin feels much better after using Speick or Pitralon.

Pinaud Clubman, Special Reserve, and Citrus Musk
Shulton Old Spice
Mennen Skin Bracer
Aqua Velva Ice Blue
Proraso splash
Floid Vigoroso
Alt Innsbruck

Floid Blue
Floid Genuine
Skin Bracer
Clubman Vanilla
ADP Colonia Insensa.. too expensive to use every day, but love the smell

Similar for me. In no particular order:

Pinaud Clubman, Lilac Vegetal, Old Spice Classic, just about any bay rum, Floid Suave (yet to try the others but I want them!), Aqua Velva Ice Blue, Mennen Skin Bracer, and Speick.

I'm a sucker for the drug store classics. I hoard things like Skin Bracer Cooling Blue and Aqua Velva Musk and love them all.

  • Mennen Skin Bracer Original (Best performer on my face BY FAR)
  • Speick (2nd best performer I've tried)
  • Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue (LOVE the scent and the cold. I wish it worked as well as Skin Bracer)
  • Old Spice (My face doesn't like it and the scent is dated, but I'll always keep it around, just like Dad)
  • Pinaud Clubman Citrus Musk (Love the scent)

Clubman - simple and somehow relaxing
Aqua Velva Ice Sport - smells great
Osage Rub - smells awful, but I love the cold; perfect with Vostok
Bay Rum - I went cheap and got Masters, it's decent but my next bottle I'm going back to CC

I can and will use most anything. But aqua velvet blue & flood blue are going to stay in my cabinet one for special occasions and the other every day. I have a long list of AS i would like to try.

AdP Colonia Intensa, I Coloniali Rhubarb A/S Balm, Castle Forbes Lime A/S Balm, T&H West Indian Limes A/S Balm and DR Harris Arlington A/S Lotion(Splash)

Craig

Osage rub - I find myself reaching for this one the most
Dr Harris Marlborough - My favorite scent, although it does not last long at all
Spieck - scent is ok, but it is very soothing

Bay Rum for me. I like all the Captain's offerings. I also like St John's BR- has a different scent than CC. I prefer the Captain, but I keep St Johns on hand as well

Your post has given me pause, and made me evaluate where aftershaves are in my priority; and maybe they don't shake out as highly as I would have otherwise thought.

Myrsol Agua Balsamica
Floid Vigoroso
Myrsol Formula C

Those are the ones that I've gone the extra mile to maintain, but were they to dry up tomorrow, I would find a way to carry on.
