Aftershaves/aftershave colognes with a lot of staying power?

I never really wanted to wear spray-on type cologne other than on occasions where I'm dressing to impress (like the club, a date, a black tie function, etc.) so I'm running the gauntlet of splash-on fragrances right now and getting mixed results. I'd love to find one that packs a punch and sticks around for a while.

So far, Clubman seems to have great staying power as does Aqua Velva Musk.

I've found Ogallala's Bay Rum to have good staying power, provided you like cloves. A lot of what gives an aftershave staying power are the essential oils used. EOs are broken down into one of three categories or notes: Top, Middle, and Base. Top notes are often the first to be noticed but dissipate the fastest; Base notes last the longest and are often the "heaviest", deepest fragrances. More information can be found at Basenotes.net. Look for AS with Middle and Base notes that you like. In addition to clove and bay rum, I love the smell of vanilla.

This topic comes up from time to time....I'm sure if you search on aftershave staying power you'll get hits, or scent time etc etc.

Nevertheless, my vote (and I suspect many on this site) will tell you to go with aftershaves like Musgo or Pinaud etc.

Thanks, guys. Before I hit search, are there any lighter splash-ons you guys would recommend? Summer's approaching up here and since I'm a heavy sweater, I'll probably refrain from the Clubman and Aqua Velva.

Now you're looking for a lighter splash on with long staying power...man you're asking a lot :)

Try SCS Med Citrus...it goes on light and stays on light, but smells great!

I would agree in saying that AV and Pinaud have great staying power. I have now used both, and both have been great performers for me. Strong, but now overwhelming, and long lasting. Of course YMMV, but I think these are two great products.

Pinaud Lime Sec and Citrus Musk are perfect for warmer weather.

+1 on the Pinaud citrus Musk(I haven't tried Lime Sec-yet.:blushing:)

+1 on MCS also.

Most a/s aren't created to have long staying power but if u wear them like a cologne, the scent will last.

Raulph Laurens Polo explorer aftershave. Very, very strong, one splash lasts all week  . Its scent is very strong and not to everyones taste so try to get a sniff before buying but, be assured, very strong!

Tabac aftershave stays with me a very long time. I love the scent too (unfortunately SWMBO does not).

I hear you. I bought some Tabac AS recently and really like it, stays around a good long time but my wife runs screaming if I wear it. I tried to sell it in the B/S/T but no takers :confused1

The humble Brut has a fair bit of staying power, but if I want real all day long coverage I use Jovan Sex Appeal. Shame the missus isn't that keen on it.

i have the cologne and at first i was like "my god this his horrid!" but i stuck with it and now i really like it.

clubman, aqua velva, brut and old spice will definately last you a while.

i actually used some afta balm on monday night and i could smell it tuesday morning. all thru my 1.5 hour drive down the turnpike.

If you want something light I found a couple ADIDAS brand as splashes at walgreens that i really like. Also the Gillette as splashes are nice both the cool wave and the spicey storm.

Also Old Spice Pure sport or old spice smooth blast are nice and citrusy compaired to classic old spice.

that stuff gives me some crazy pimples and makes my skin break out. I think it is too greasy for me.

Generally, the longest lived aftershaves are the designer types that compliment their better known cologne counterparts.

The longest lived aftershave I have ever tried has been YSL M7. I got a good 24 hours out of it, and even after showering the next morning I still smelled traces of it.

I get some good mileage out of Provence Sante's Green Tea aftershave. I thought it was gone this afternoon and then I started sweating during my aikido class and all I smelled was Provence Sante. It sure smelled a hell of a lot better than just plain old sweat.

Might wanna look at Jovan Musk aftershave/cologne. Very strong, great smell IMO and lasts. Just be carefull when you splash it on, does sting a tad .
