Aftershave vs Tendskin vs Alum Block for razor burn

Tendskin burns so hot, it will scorch your soul. Alum block is ok I think, but I've always preferred an alcohol based splash. I think that alum tends to dry your face out more - but I only tried it once and didn't like it. As always, YMMV.

Tendskin, and it's milder cousin Solution 2 by Min New York are both basically aspirin dissolved in alcohol - if I recall. I tried tendskin for a bit, and it seriously seriously burned (I had terrible technique with a fusion at the time) and stinks to boot. Solution 2 was more bearable, and less stinky. I probably should have been rinsing my face later and moisturizing... if I had, I may not have had:
Big dry flakes of skin peeling off my face! particularly around my lip area.
Again, if I was moisturizing, this may not have happened. I would start with basic AS (get some cheap aqua velva blue ice or something) and only step it up if you need to.

If you are going to use a splash, I would start with Aqua Velva Musk. Alcohol is the second ingredient rather than the first. I have personally found AV Musk to be less irritating than other commonly available splashes. It really doesnt burn much if at all, at least on me.
EDIT: Woops, it pays to test your assumptions. I was wrong, alcohol is the first ingredient in AV Musk. However, it does not burn my skin. Perhaps it's the glycerin in it that makes it mild.

All 3 perform very different functions and fill different (if slightly overlapping ) niches of skin care. You'd need to decide exactly what YOUR skin needs then find the product that provides it.

Well the main thing I am looking for is the product which will help my neck area with the razor burn and irritation it's prone to. What would you suggest?
Actually, without sounding tongue in cheek, it is a good idea to work on getting rid of the irritation first and foremost.
Perhaps trying a different blade, working on angle and/or pressure, making sure you're don't have dry lather on your neck if you shave your face first etc.
When i've had a bad shave and feel a slight amount of razor burn, my AS setup is as follows:
Alum - a dab of 444 along with a nice alcohol splash that has some face goodies such as:
Tuff - Sensitiv
Swiss Pitralon
Saint Charles Shave

None of the products you asked about is going to do much for irritation and razor burn, except maybe the alum will tone it down ever so slightly for you. As my good friend above mentions, you need to avoid the irritation and burn in the first place.

So you use the Alum and then splash the AS on? Do you rinse off the Alum before putting on the AS?
