Aftershave, to use or not to use.

Just wondering why aftershave is necessary. . I know this might sound like a silly question but I swear my face and especially my neck seems the clearest before I add some of these.chemicals to it. I have all kinds of after shave splashes and lotions, and more bumps and spots seem to appear right after I use them. Anyone got any good recommendations or alternative ways to soothe skin after a shave? I use an alum block but assume that's not enough to cut the mustard.

Edit: What do you guys think of Proraso After shave balm and alcohol free proraso splash? Any good ? Need something thats not gonna exacerbate shaving bumps and irritation

I use alum aswell, the aftershave or cologne goes on the lower neck and chest when i feel like it but yes. Its pointless for stopping bumps imho.

Oh, I don't think AS is a necessity. I just like it. My wife always gives me a peck on the cheek and guesses my AS. I really would not use one that she didn't like.
