Aftershave in humidity

I live Miami and it is EXTREMELY humid here. Aftershave balms or lotions tend to make my face feel sticky when I walk outside, no matter how much I try to rub them in. I also get very sweaty on my face too.

Do these balms/lotions block the pores?

I'm looking for something that will make my face feel clean and refreshed when I'm done. I don't necessarily have a "dry skin" issue or anything. Should I stick to splashes?

Can someone recommend a either a good balm that won't get all sticky in the humidity and make me feel refreshed or a good splash that will leave my skin cool feeling?

You might try an aloe vera gel . One I have is full of vitamin E , aloe vera , glycerin and rose hip water . Has other good ingredients but those are the ones I recall . Good luck with it .

Should I stick to splashes?

Based on what you've said and on your location? That sounds like a big "Yes!" to me!

Osage Rub is touted as the be-all & end-all of cooling AS's out there. I haven't tried it but others swear by it.

Proraso's splash is also very cooling (altho probably a distant 2nd to Osage Rub).

Mama Bear makes a summer Peppermint Ice Milk AS that's extremely cooling. Ask her to add a shot of menthol to it. It's ridiculously cold. :w00t:

Sue @ Saint Charles Shave offers a Blue Line AS splash. Very mentholated, works great, pretty inexpensive. Another good choice.

Good luck!

Osage rub is great--I love the feel of it in the summer. Aqua Velva is another good choice. I think that splashes are the way to go.

Balms and lotions usually contain fatty oils. This makes your skin feel oily and sticky. Especially in a humid climate.
Since you have not a dry skin you can just use a alcohol based Aftershave or Splash. Splashes contain less fragrance than aftershaves. With high humidity the smell of a splash should be gone rather quick an aftershave gives you a longer staying scent.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'm going to try out the Osage Rub. The Proraso Splash looks intriguing too.

I'm looking for something that will have that intense cooling affect, but won't have a scent that lingers and interferes with my colognes.

I lived in Miami, nobody walks outside in the summer; I recommend the pool, South Beach or El Farito

If you want to avoid the drying of an alcohol-based splash, Mama Bear makes a very nice "summer ice" balm. Not sticky at all, plus the aforementioned menthol.

I dont know if its considered a balm for it has to be shaken first to distribute the solids is Mamma bear summer aftershave peppermint it drys down fast not a sticky feeling, but most days I use Aqua Velva or Proraso splash and if not much scent wanted D.R Harris Pink aftershave.

I use balms and milks in the summer here in Tallahassee, I'm just very careful about not using too much--If you are sufficiently sparing, you can avoid the stickiness. I do use splashes with wild abandon, though.

I live in Tampa so I feel your pain.

I rely on Royall Lymes for an everyday aftershave in the summer.

You say you sweat allot which only seems to activate the scent even more and the scent somehow helps you feel cooler. I'm not sure how but the heat seems more tolerable with it on.

It's a little pricey but a little goes a long way.

Also watching the waitresses dancing casino on the bar at Mangos in South Beach while drinking an Ice cold beer makes the heat more tolerable.

The aloe vera gel I was talking about is called European Mystique . It's green in color and is in a 12 ounce bottle . Will last a wet shaver about 87 years .

AV in the summer is awesome and the scent fades quickly (too quickly). I live in deep South Texas, so I know heat and humidity.

Im in south florida (west palm) as well, I always use: Thumpers Witch Hazel + one of the below AS's:

GFT Skin Food Limes
Aqua Velva - Ice Blue
Skin Bracer - Green
Clubman

I never really have any issue, even with the Skin Food.
