Aftershave and/or moisturizer?

When you guys use after shave balm or cream or anything of the sort do you only apply it to shaved areas? Or if you have dry skin elsewhere on your face would you apply it all over?

I get some dry skin around my nose/cheek area right outside of the area I usually shave, so if aftershave has moisturizing qualities to it anyhow I figure it should work just as well on the rest of my face right?

So far I have usually used moisturizer on those areas and after shave on the rest. Figure I may as well stick to one product if I could.

The basic rule is to use what works. If the balm I use is moisturizing enough (e.g., Art of Shaving, T&H UC), then I can use it as a moisturizer on other areas of my face just fine. There certainly is no reason why you can't. Skin is skin, and the dividing line between a balm and a moisturizer is a very blurry one, and mostly exists because of marketing efforts. Most of the time I prefer a lighter splash, but like you, I get a few dry areas, and I spot treat those with a moisturizer. Generally, I find balms and moisturizers too heavy to use all over my face; that goes double this time of year. But those pesky dry areas always need a little more grease to keep them in line, no matter how high the temperature or humidity. So I use two products and don't fret over it.

My skin is a bit oily and I've always preferred alcohol-based splashes. I keep tinkering with my skin care regimen, though, and have started using a little balm after my evening face wash. Lately, I've been reading:

Method shaving is intriguing, and I'm wondering about these products. The after shave is reputed to be excellent (see Mantic's video).
