Advice on a silvertip brush?

Hello BB peeps.
My fiancee asked me what I would like for a christmas gift. Normaly I say cycling stuff as thats quite pricey but this year is the first christmas since I started my shaving obsession, so I have been racking my brains about what I should get.
Im thinking a Kent BK12 brush as I already have a BK2 and I love that brush.
Obviously this brush is expensive and £100 is alot of money to me, so its quite extravagent but we are planning to have kids in the future so I most likely wont be buying one for a long time.
I know the brush will be great, obviously but Im wondering are there benifits from a silvertip brush, will it perform significantly better than my BK2. I have seen other brand do silvertip brushes for £60, thats half the price, surely it coe from the same place. Maybe this is a stupid question, apart from my bk2 I have tried 2 cheap boars which have been great.
This maybe abit jumbly, I am falling asleep as I type, well thats my excuse.

brushes are like bib shorts, i have tried a few different brands of brushes and i find the shavemac's are a great all round brush
check out his site http://www.shavemac.com/
P.S shavemac to me are the rapha or assos of the bib shorts world

Thats a good anolagy with the bibs cooltide, makes perfect sense.
Cheers for the link I will have a look at those

The BK12 is a huge brush, overwhelmingly large. I would suggest heading to a local store and seeing one in person if possible. I have a BK8 that is an amazing brush for creating lather in a bowl, but is at the upper limit for me in size.

This is the problem you see, nowhere near me sells shaving stuff. All of my window shopping is online.

That makes it difficult :( I saw that you are in England and thought you might have a good chance at being able to see one in person.

I'm not sure if links to pics from external shaving sites are allowed, but here is a pic of the Kent BK lineup:

That might give you a good idea of the sheer size of the BK12.

Cheers for the link and WOW it really is a massive brush. I live in the north so to my knowledge there arnt many places that sell stuff. I do know of a small tobaccnist but it only sells a small amount.

I have never used the BK12 but from what I've gathered on the forum the brush is a beast  I have shifted towards almost exclusively face lathering so my BK8 comes out on rare occasions or when I'm testing out some new software and want to experiment with it. That said, the BK8 is an amazing brush. Super soft tips, works well with soaps, and shines with creams. It is by far the best bowl lathering brush I have experienced. I have used it to face lather and it performs well, but not as well as a short-lofted dual band. I would guess the BK12 is similar but just MUCH bigger. Hopefully someone with more insight can chime in.

If a Kent is what you are after, get a BK8. The BK12 lies firmly in the big end of beastly brushes. It's almost more of a novelty as it is something for practical use.

If you want to move into beast territory on a budget, get a Whipped Dog 30 mm Silvertip. It isn't quite as big so it is a bit easier to handle. Whipped Dog is the best bang for the buck. I don't attempt to use mine daily, but I enjoy it when it comes up on rotation.

Concur with all of the above.....I have owned the bk8....the pl12 (different handle) and the 30 mm whipped dog. I LOVE the bk 8. One of my top 3 brushes.....( the m and f chief and my t&h 1/3 with the other 2.). The kent size 12 is a massive brush. Unless you have tried some other massive brushes....Thater 4125/3 then I would consider passing on the kent 12.

Here is is a post I made a while back...hope it helps
