Adjustable razor: Slim v Merkur

Well I'm not getting the blade exposure to cut my titanium beard so have been told to look into an adjustabel DE razor.

Can't afford to pay for a super speed as prices are silly.

So it's either the Slim or one of the Merkur's adjustable ones.

what do people think is best (closest shave without feeling liek i've set my face on flames)

FYI: Using a Merkur 38c at the mo and takes too many passes to get a decent shave (and even that isn't the best, as I can go over with a cartridge and take hair off)

:confused1:confused1

You may want to look for a Super Adjustable (essentially a black handled version of the slim) as they are considerably better priced but nevertheless just as good perormance wise as the slim or fatboy.

What blades are you currently using?

You might want to read the "Razors Ranked by Aggressiveness" page in the wiki.

The Futur seems to have the greatest measured blade gap.

I have a fairly soft beard so I can't give you any guidance based on personal experience.

Of course, once you get hooked collecting's half the fun.

I assume you mean you can't afford to pay for a Gillette Fatboy?

Superspeeds are non-adjustable, and frequently available for less than $20 unless you want a cased pristine example.

As for razor recommendations, I will second the recommendation for a Super Adjustable. I found a great condition one at a antiques store recently for very little coin, and it is a great razor, that gives me super smooth awesome shaves.

Yep. That's what i meant lol

The Slim is my go-to razor. I also have a Goodwill, Tech, and an "Old". I found mine at a flea market for 12 us dollars w/ a brush and a mug and it's cherry. Just look you can find them. 40 GBP sounds high to me. If you guys are paying this kind of cabbage. I might have to start buying them up. :001_cool:

40 pounds is for one that's totally redone and "like new"

The various Gillette Adjustables are great and I have enjoyed using them. However, I kinda like my Progress a bit more and I know it's more aggressive than my Slim Adjustable. You can't go wrong with either brand. YMMV
