Adhesive Material for a Paddle Strop

I made a kangaroo paddle strop a while back, this is what I used.

Same, that contact cement is what I have always used for kangaroo paddle strops, and also balsa ones.

I had success with PVA white wood glue when I made my last paddle strop. I used very thick leather and the paddle was hardwood. I tried using contact adhesive on my first paddle but didn't have the spray on stuff - the stuff in a tube is hard to work with over a large surface as it gets tacky so quickly. The spray version looks like a much more sensible way to go.

I also clamped it while it was curing, as the PVA glue doesn't have an immediate grab and needs the pressure to keep things in place while it sets.
