Adding scented oils to unscented creams?

Adding scented oils to unscented creams?

Can this be done? If i wanted to create a custom scent could i add my own to a quality shave cream (unscented) to create my own unique scent without compromising the integrity or lather of the shave cream?

I was thinking of doing this with an AoS or TGR unscented cream. I have unscented samplers of both products.

This can definitely be done. If you use essential oils, you don't have to add much, and therefore the quality of the lather should not be compromised. I'm not sure if it would work to add your favorite EDC; I worry that too much of it would compromise the lathering qualities of the cream (but I'm no expert).

hmmm sorry i'm new still, EDC?

Eau de cologne. Just plain "cologne" to most people.

Sorry. The acronyms are really hard to resist.

The point is that I think some people would love to make a "poor man's version" of high-end cologne-scented creams such as Penhaligon's Endymion or Truefitt and Hill's 1805. Could this be done by using unscented creams and adding sample cologne? Maybe, but I'm just not sure.

You can add your own fragrance oil (FO) or essential oil (EO) but if these are only sample sizes you are talking a very, very small amount. Use a dropper. You can pick one up in any pharmacy, even Walmart. Depending on the oil and the sample size, you may need to dilute a drop prior to adding it. What size are the samples?

If you are going to blend a combination of fragrances, do this separately and then add a drop of the blend to the SC. Don't try to mix it into the cream itself.

A cologne will contain alcohol, do not use it to fragrance shave cream. It will kill your lather.

When you factor the cost of an oil for the size sample it may not be worth it.

Trust me, I am not the type to over use a cologne. In fact i often protest the use of spray bottles. I think they have created a terrible habit of people over scenting.

As for the shaving cream. i intended to use oils not cologne. I had a feeling the alcohol would not work. I know a drop does a long way so i planned on using a dropper.

The reason i ask is most of the cream have a woody or musty smell. and i prefer a cleaner fresh / surf kinda smell. It's hard to explain but i am always drawn to shampoos and soaps that are blue and use phrases like Brisk, Cool, Refreshing etc.

have you head of a scent by the name of Aqua by Carolina Herrera? thats what i was looking for.

I was afraid the cologne thing wouldn't work. Sue would know, for sure.

If you like a clean oceanic fragrance you should definitely try Truefitt and Hill's 1805 shaving cream. Check the reviews section. You can order a Truefitt and Hill sampler and they will send you small samples of their creams and you can try it out. I think you would love it.

I almost did i noticed there is a 20% off floating around and i used it to grab a Futur. I might go back and just get the 1805 if it has that clean ocean kinda smell. any recommendations on a good dopp bag? i almost ordered the Truefitt and Hill' shave kit too.

I personally have not smelled it. I found this fragrance description on the web:

Herrera Aqua Cologne by Carolina Herrera, Notes of sea fresh mist, frosted bergamot, zesty mandarin, fig leaf, bamboo leaf, french lavender, rosemary, cardamom infusion, neroli, white pepper, vetiver, tonka beans, marine amber, and skin musk.

Those notes would need to be added to your scent blend propotionatly. In all honesty, to fragrance a small sample of shave cream would not be worth it. You're hitting your head against the wall if it already has a woods fragrance. Maybe you can find a shave cream in an aquatic fragrance? The scent of shave cream does not last anyway.

Oh i have unscented samples. I only mentioned them as a way to practice. i can easily get another unscented AoS or gentlemens refinery cream once i have an idea what I need. I should add that the "sample" is about an oz so it's not that small. but i am sure you get the idea.

Sorry I am just the kind of guy that likes to get his hands dirty. making my own beers and ciders, leather working ETC. I find hitting my head into a wall enjoyable.

I do appreciate the help BTW.

You will love 1805. Top notes are bergamot and mandarin; middle notes are cypress, cardamon, and nutmeg; base notes are sandalwood, cedarwood, and musk.

Smells just wonderfully fresh and clean.

That sounds nice. I do like TRG's standard sent but i was hoping the ice would be more cool and refreshing. Instead it smells like black liquorish.... I won't go into details, but lets just say after a night partying with a bottle of jagermister i just can't tolerate that smell any more.

1805 on order! Thanks for the tip!
