AD Timeline: Mapping of an Addiction

Have you ever considered how bad your RAD/SBAD/ADs have been? Well, I decided to chart my acquisitions since I joined B&B.

Before I joined B&B, I purchased a 1954 Gillette Flare Super Speed and a Tweezerman brush back in July '09. Since then, here is my progress:

As you can see, I started off early with an interest in DE's that became an interest in shavettes which turned to straights (thanks to Whipped Dog) as well as injectors and SE's. After a while, I decided I prefered SEs/injectors and largely culled off my DE's.

I used to think it was silly to try different brushes but I kept thinking: what if there's something better out there? Lately I've been on a large amount of SBAD. That also got me thinking, what about all of the DE's that I didn't try? That would explain the exponential growth seen in DE acquisition in the past couple of weeks.

Here is everything together:

So is this a normal progression? Does it ever end or get better?

I find myself being curious about soaps now whereas I was fine with using a tube of Proraso for a long time.

Nice graphs, and a very interesting idea. Unlike you, I try my best to not keep track of my acquisitions. While probably bad for my wallet, I think an analytic like that for me would keep me from purchasing my new "must have". When I run out of space then I know I've hit my limit.

drocu, I would get rid of this as soon as possible. You just gave your SWMBO tangible evidence of your addition which can and will be used against you.

I agree. Once I actually made the graphs, I was pretty disgusted with myself. Especially my DE acquisitions recently... That's just bad.

Love this... we need scientific and empirical data to study this awesome and wonderful illness.

I completely agree. It was quite easy to do. The vast majority of my acquisitions have been via the 'bay or the BST here which are always paid by Paypal. So it was pretty easy to track. I bet I could even chart the amount that I've spent over the last 6 months...but that would be a sorry sight. Graphs are made using Google Docs/Drive for simplicity.

I just thought of this as well. And now that it's on the interwebs...it cannot be undone!

I would be interested in seeing my past 6 months of the sabbatical and now that I've just broken it. Flatline plunging into a direct 45. :)

Great Charts. However, I do not want to chart mine.

Straights at least 50, DEs at least 30, SEs at least 15.

And that does not consider preshaves, postshaves, soaps, creams or sticks.

And then there are the aftershaves and colognes.

Krap ... I think that there is more.

Graphing it out makes it way to real and scary, im still under the impression i dont have a problem ! facts totally mess that up

Exactly why I don't graph my actions. I'm sure a lot of what I do would look like that, and I'd rather not know.:scared:

I'm glad I charted my purchases lately. I managed to resist buying another razor from the 'bay this morning because I thought "I already have 9 DE's...why do I need another?" Although this may be a poor example because it would have been a duplicate razor so it was relatively easy to resist.

It gets worst with time .

...yeah, I kind of knew this would be true.
