Acqua Di Parma Colonia?

Everytime I go past a department store, I always have to go in and spray some of this...
I don't think the smell would appeal to me if I was in my 20s, but i'm 32 and I love the smell. It's expensive, but I'm most likely going to commit and purchase some for myself.

Have any others had good experiences of this scent? (I do prefer the original 'Colonia' not the intense or summer variations of the fragrance)

I quit smoking last year and now appreciate the importance (and allure) of being a nice smelling man.

Great stuff - a true classic and one you really can't go wrong with.

I prefer the original as well. I think that's the general (although by no means universal) consensus here, for whatever that's worth.

And congratulations on quitting smoking. Well done!

I am the same age as you and live and work in London as well.
I have owned a 100ml bottle since 2006-7 and use it when the weather is "summery". Lately, we haven't been having much warm weatehr in the UK, so I have reduced my quantity of the scent - I have had bottles for two years and the scent has deteriorated quite a bit, especially the 'top notes'. I have a 30ml in the leather travel puch and take it with me on holidays and trips abroad.

As the above post suggested, it is a classic and inoffensive scent. You can't go wrong with it! I also like Essenza Colonia in the cooler months.

Hi Rum,

Thanks for the note. I'm not sure what kind of social circles you move in here in London, but I've noticed with friends (and friends of friends) most people tend to wear the similar fragrances, which tend to be what they stock at Boots (a cosmetics supermarket place for non UK Readers) or even what's on offer at places like The Fragrance Shop, or even what those dreadful freshen up men stock in pub / club toilets.

A big appeal for Acqua Di Parma for me, is that it's not as available as other fragrances like Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein etc And consequently, and no one I know wears it. So, hopefully when I purchase, I'll smell great and not like everyone I know.

PS I had some Prada aftershave which I hoarded for a few years the smell did deteriorate - like you, I had my bottle for almost 5 years.

For you guys living in London check out Shay & Blue. Just bought the Blood Orange from them and find it fantastic, great summer fragrance.

As everyone has already said its a classic. And to be clear it smells woderful. Its a warm sunny dsay on the Medternean put into a bottle. Great summer fragrance and I imagine great on a dreary day when you want to be reminded of the summer. I just bought a small bottle a coupe of days ago but regretted only getting a small bottle. So I went back and exchanved it for a bigger bottle.

I've been considering buying a bottle of AdP, but it bothers me that you guys talk about it deteriorating in just a couple of years. I've never had that happen to any frag I've owned. Is that a common problem with AdP? I have so many frags that I count on them lasting for years on my shelves.

That's bunk. I've owned two bottles of AdP, had one 5+ years and my current bottle over 7 year now. Neither has or had changed at all.

Don't worry about that. A bottle won't last more than a year because you're going to end up using it every day.

Funny you should post this as I got some shaving cream of theirs yesterday. It smells great but it won't be on a regular basis. The brand is popular in my family especially at Christmas.

I totally know where you're coming from - I'm like that too. Ever since I got into niche fragrances (Creed, Amouage, some Chanel exclusives, etc), I have trouble going back to designers.

I also find that many people here dowse themselves in chemical ingredients from the likes of the supermarket "aftershave" brands. Most of these things now are nauseating to me and I can detect how synthetic/poor quality they are...

Unfortunately, I started with Acqua di Parma and went upwards from there. You know, there's no going back now - you're one of us!!

Went out to browse Westfield...came back with a bottle of Blu Mediteranneo: Bergamotto di Calabria. Has a nice citrus-y smell.
