Above the Tie Shaving Brush

The handle looks nice, but the 55mm loft is a bit high for my tastes. That loft would probably be okay with two-band Finest hair, but it might be a bit floppy with Silvertip.

Just my opinion...

Hi Stan,
That's pretty cool that you're looking for feedback here.
If you check out most of the highly touted brushes around here, it looks like 50mm or less might be a decent starting point for badger.
Although my brush interests are pretty specific... I'm sure some of the brush pros will chime in before too long.

What loft do you gents prefer?
Some nice handles for sure. I especially like this one because I like the old ER 200.

In my personal opinion, ideal loft looks something like this
ST 20/46, 22/46, 24/48
Finest/Best 20/47, 22/47, 24/49

Though, I can see the appeal for a brush maker to max out the loft. I have two identical 24mm Silvertip knots, one set at 46 and the other at 50. The 50 doesn't get used because its hint of floppiness makes it under perform compared to the one set at 46. The catch is that if you look at both from the top, the bloom on the 50 seems to cover twice the surface area compared to the 46. So, the lower loft performs better, but the higher loft blooms larger and must look more appealing to prospective buyers...

Thanks for the great input inspringK. I will use that info.
Hey, good to hear. I am sure the next may have a different idea, but I think those are some pretty fair guidelines. Since I only have one Best badger brush, I am less sure of those numbers and suspect they can be set lower but not higher. I have yet to find a black or pure badger knot to loft setting that works and have found that boar knots are way more able to handle any loft.

FYI, now through Fathers Day our hand turned silver tip badger brushes are 10% off. The handles are turned from Madagascar Ebony, no two are ever alike. Have a look and pick one (or two) while the sale last.

Those look phenomenal. Sadly, after this month's razor spending it'll be a couple months before I can afford another shaving splurge.

I got my Madagascar ebony shave brush from here last year. I love it. Best brush i ever used, and it looks as good as the day i got it.
