Aboud & Boosamra straight

Hi everyone, I got out of a local antique store, really happy to have found a few razors for only a few $!!

There is a Boker, a Blue Steel, a SSA Eskilstuna, and finally an unknown bit: Aboud & Boosamra

Anyone knows anything about that last one? I can't seem to find much info on it. It seems quite nice actually:

Interesting find.
Aboud and Boosamra (owned by Chahim Aboud & Salim Boosamra) was a retail store selling fine goods in the Old Montreal area of Montreal from 1912 - 1934.
The razor would have been made for them by a razor manufacturer but by whom I don't know.

Cool! Thanks for the info! I'm right next to Montreal so I guess it would make sense it came from there. From the looks of it I would imagine German steel, it looks real solid, but then again weren't they forced to put the name of the country of origin sometime after the 1900s?

After 1890. Only if they wanted to export to the U.S. It was made specifically for a Canadian merchant, so no need. I'd guess German also.

Well, here's what it looks like after buffing/sanding:

It would've been better if I had descaled/rescaled it, but I still haven't done any pinning so I'll wait and see how my first goes.

Thanks.

I tried to keep most of the etching, I sanded only with 1000grit over it, but not much of it is left.

There's also still some light marks on the other side which would've needed me to probably go lower than 400grit, but in the end I figured it was good enough like that, and if I decide to remove the scales at some point, i'll clean it then.

I'll attack maybe the Boker tomorrow...can't wait to give it a spin.

got one to would like to get history it says on the blade guaranteed by aboud & boosamra and on the other part it says wald-germany 1497

Interesting!

Mine had nothing else on the other side. Where did you get yours from? I got mine not too far from Montreal.

Looking good

I tend to like original patina preserved and don't like to see a razor over-restored, and that looks like a good balance between restoration and preservation to me.

I also think those original scales look great - I certainly wouldn't replace them if it was my razor.

Thanks :)

Originally when I wrote this post, and said I would've preferred to descale/rescale it, I meant with the same set of scales, but just to clean up better every little spot. I wouldn't make new ones, theses ones are really nice and fit the razor perfectly.

Ah, I understand - sounds like a good plan!
