A unique kind of Scotch

When I discover something that I think is worth talking about I just have to share it with my friends here on B&B.
I discovered a somewhat unique kind of Scotch. It is Glenfiddich Scotch Solera Reserve. Solera is a process for aging liquids such as wine, beer, vinegar, and brandy, by fractional blending in such a way that the finished product is a mixture of ages.

They take 15 year-old Glenfiddich from ex-sherry casks, ex-bourbon casks, and also ex-bourbon casks. They then mix these into a giant “solera” vat that still contains whisky from previous batches, which have been mellowing together in the vat. Since the whisky in the vat is not contained in relatively small oak barrels anymore, it does not continue to “age” in the traditional way. The solera vat is never emptied more than halfway, which means there are theoretically molecules of whisky in each bottle of Glenfiddich 15 that were first put into the vat in 1998.
This is really good quality Scotch and it taste great as well. If you like Scotch you will love this stuff.

One nice thing about Scotch is that if you over-due it and drink a little too much, Scotch gives you the least hangover effect than any other alcoholic beverage. That's a fact.

Yes. I love a good martini, good gin does not love me. If I have two moderate sized martinis in an evening, I feel very ragged the next morning.

Yes, their 15 year is all solera. The difference between the 12 and 15 makes a really great vertical for those new to single malt.

I can't really think of a single malt that is similar to Glenfiddich's 15 year.

Have you every tried any of the eades double malt blends? Their is a Ben nevis/clynelish blend that is incredible. The mortlach/dufftown blend is good too. I'll upload a photo here shortly.

.

No, that is not true. If it doesn't say solera on the label then it is not. Big difference. See my original post about the solera process. That is the main difference.

I have severe scotch acquisition disease. I was bringing two to four bottles home a week for awhile. This blend is one of my favorites. Really unique since both are finished in different casks. 20171119_081328.jpg

ok show me a glenfiddich 15 that doesn't say solera as now I'm curious. I know what I bought was the solera. I can show you the transaction if you would like.

That is not the same as we are talking about here. I am pointing out in this thread the unique taste of a solera Scotch. Yours is just another Scotch.

If you go to their site you will see Glenfiddich 15 without the word solera on it.
