What's new

A rookies first shave with an open comb.

I found this Gillette New long comb at an antique store today. It cleaned up really nice. Just had my first shave with it and am pretty impressed. It was the first time I have been able to active a 3 pass BBS shave without having to do any touchups afterward.

The funny part is after the first pass there were parts of my face that I could not feel the razor cutting anything on the 2nd and 3rd pass no matter what angle I tried.

I much prefer open comb razors to a safety bar, although I use both. The open comb allows some of the lather to pass between the openings in the comb allowing much better lubrication of the blade and protection of the skin. Thus, you can shave closer without excessive irritation.

I got an open comb razor (RazoRock OLD Type) for my son because he often goes days or weeks between shaves.
He's impressed at how easy it is to rinse out.

Buffing with an OC razor is a beautiful thing with how the teeth release the lather for the following forward stroke again.

Try skipping your XTG pass, you might be surprised.
