I'm not at all sure of the handle material...any positive identification would be appreciated. It is very hard, and hard to work.

Looking up from the bottom, through the Lucite, it says:

Sterilized
Genuine Badger
N. <E> Y.

Do you mean Catalin, maybe? Never heard of casein (a milk protein) being used in brush handles.

No, I mean the milk protein casein. I haven't heard of it being used for brushes either but there is a plastic made of casein and it looks just like that. I make pens and ran across it there.
